Is this for arthritis? I have it in my shoulder. Sam-e seemed to work very well for it. It's also taken by people as an anti-depressant. (No presription, it's a supplement) Unfortunately the side effects were too strong for me - some stomach up set, but mostly feeling kind of out of it. But many people take it with good effect, so you might be able to as well. It's not cheap tho.

I've been taking something called Recovery from Purica (a little Duncan firm) it seems to have helped quite a bit. I can sleep thru the night and mostly have no pain unless I move my arm in a certain way. Also tumeric capsules are a good natural anti-inflammatory. Make sure they also contain pepper/cayenne because it increases the absorbtion of the turmeric a lot.

You could google all this stuff to see what you think.

For me, the doc just said take aspirin, as if I'm going to eat aspirin every day for the rest of my life.

I guess this isn't for you, but supposedly many people who have medical pot prescriptions have it for arthritis.

Arthritis with the severe creptis in my shoulder and severe degenerative disc disease and arthritis in my lower back. I was on Vioxx and Celebrex for a couple of years but they took me off them because of my stomach and put me on Arthrotec, then, like I said tried to get me on oxycontin.

When I hurt my back for the third and worst time the good doctors at the Base hospital had me eating 800 mg of Ibuprofen 3 times a day. Well, to make a long story short, my stomach is now a medical mess, I'm on Nexium and gaviscon just to keep it in check.

If it was just the arthritis the pot might work, but it've got other issues with the shoulder and back especially. It may help some people but I just can't see it working for me.

I'll never get rid of the pain in my shoulder or back completely but that doesn't bother me as long as I can function. Odd as it sounds pain is kind of like having an old friend around all the time its an aggravation but you'd miss him if he was gone.

So far the T3's keep it in under a semblance of control without bothering my stomach to much and when they stop working I guess I'll look for a different pain killer that isn't quite as addictive as oxycontin or the like and believe it or not if pots the only thing left, then pot it'll be. 8O

Of course by that point Curtman will have got it legalized and I won't have to worry about gang ripoffs cause they'll all be wearing 3 piece suits and checking their stock portfolios.

You're lucky they still work for you. I also have severe degenerative disc disease, foraminal stenosis, arthritis and four torn discs in the lower back, L-2 through S-1. I've been using extended release Oxycontin and Percocet, for breakthrough pain, for about 3 years now. Using 40mg of the Oxy doesn't get rid of the pain, but it does "take the edge off" and makes it so I can make it through the day, living a "normal" life, doing what I have to do. The only time it "weirds" me out is on the bad days when I have to up the dosage or add a Percocet or 2. These are the days when I don't leave home....period! As for the addictiveness, I find if on a "good" day I don't use anything for 18 hours or so I do start getting a bit "antsy".....withdrawal symptoms I suppose. I'm not happy having to live like this and have tried so many alternatives, all with their own side effects, some making me feel like a Zombie. I've pretty well given up and will just keep on using what at least makes life bearable.

I hear ya. But I'll keep going as long as I can with the T3's before trying anything else and I just can't bring myself to try unregulated herbal medicines despite the fact that big pharaceutical corporations are likely lying to us about everything we take.

Ibuprofen is all I take. My body is a bit of a mess from sports but that's what works best and quickest. Good for a hangover too.

I find this interesting. I try to use Turmeric in cooking when I can but had not thought of capsules. I did a search and kept coming up with Turmeric plain. Can you give me a brand with cayenne pepper.

I suppose you could do it yourself actually.

The turmeric you get in capsules is usually concentrated for the active ingredient. It would be really difficult for you to get the same amount by eating turmeric in food.

I use Bell Curcumin 2000X. But you can also get cayenne in capsules, so take turmeric w/o cayenne and add the cayenne capsules.

Thanks. I gather it is the Curcumin that is the target here. I could not find Turmeric/Curcumin combined with anything.
