If you really want anything to do with the Christian message you should give some money to the Salvation Army instead. It'd be better for you on practically every moral level than stooping into the depths to find ways of defending that ridiculous redneck multi-millionaire hatemonger.

The only hate mongering I've heard has been against Phil.

This is the sort of thing he says.

Image

He does admit to being a redneck however.

He is also, as you say, very successful. Is that why you hate him?

His little speech from the altar back in 2010 about where he went on about the gayz in the exact same manner that Hitler went on about the Jews was all I need to know about him. It's one thing to dislike, it's another thing altogether to knowingly and deliberately demonize and dehumanize. Is that why you love him? Is that why you're going out of your way to sanctify him, the way you always do around here whenever some social conservative cretin opens his idiot mouth and shows his true colours? Is that the sort of talk that attracts you like a bear to honey?

IMO its a case of The Lady doth protest too much, much worse things have been said about a lot of subjects by many without repercussion. Subjects like religion for example whether it be Christianity, Judaism or Islam. Which is also near and dear to many.

On the other hand A&E is a private entity and reserves the right to set its own terms and condition, they pay someone a shit load of money and that person is obligated to follow certain rules and regulations. Just like any other job.

:D

Some backwoods redneck from Louisiana says something outrageous about homosexuality, bestiality, infidelity, and a large portion of the supposedly enlightened world goes completely off their nut. It's rather silly when you think about it. A&E lived knowingly with these views for 3 years and then suddenly decided their redneck patriarch was out of line. Gimme a break.

The truth is that it isn't so much about moral outrage or peoples rights, it's about the Benjamin's. A$E doesn't need Phil Robertson rocking the boat and drawing attention to the fact that he holds these views or, that he was willing to use the notoriety he garnered from "their" show to express them.

A&E didn't shit can him for the views he holds they shit canned him for the potential lost revenue those views might cause. So, this is likely nothing more than a business decision and they could really care less what Phil thinks despite the fact that they're suddenly trying to portray moral outrage.

I'm glad he turned his life around and for the record I really like the guy and his philosophy on life but, claiming that his views are a product of the 60's or his previous lifestyle is blatant bullshit.

If that were the case every baby boomer still alive myself included would hold those same views and surprise, surprise very few of us do. Phil is more a product of the backwoods of Louisiana and a extremely rigid religious dogma that is taught from birth and used to bring the wayward back to the righteous path of Christian values like tolerance, kindness and forgiveness.......sinners excepted. ROTFL

All you have to do is look at the difference between Phil and Uncle Si. Uncle Si doesn't seem to hold those views or if he does he's smart enough not to expound on them publicly which means his years of military Service probably broadened his outlook on life and helped prevent him from becoming just another "recovering redneck" who was coerced into spouting the Church's party line in order to get into heaven.

Tolerance has never been a strong suit of the Religious deep south no matter what they claim and I wonder just how many Catholic or Jewish friends his religious leaders have at the country club they attend?

Noooooooooooo! You're saying A&E cancelled Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's show too!

I can't wait to see how stupid this thread gets, if it can get any more so than this.

Just so we're clear on this, you (and the Conservatives apparently 8O ), believe he has a right to free speech (and a TV show to spew his garbage from) but nobody should be able to say he's an idiot.

I think the AV Club had a good spin on this Sarah Palin and others protest the revoking of Duck Dynasty star's First Amendment rights to be on a TV show.

I've seen commercials for the show and I haven't watched it because of those commercials , but I do like the following commentary. And really I don't know why some are excited about this. These Freedonlanders are typical, always have been and always will be the same. Would anyone expect anything different?

Blow, a black man, grew up about 50 miles from where Robertson is based. He knows the Louisiana white culture, the history of the state with respect to segregation and discrimination (remember, Plessy v Ferguson is a case from Louisiana).

"To me, that is part of the problem. You don’t have to operate with a malicious spirit to do tremendous harm. Insensitivity and ignorance are sufficient. In fact, intolerance that is disarming is the most dangerous kind. It can masquerade as morality".

"Robertson’s comments conjure the insidious mythology of historical Southern fiction, that of contented slave and benevolent master, of the oppressed and the oppressors gleefully abiding the oppression, happily accepting their wildly variant social stations. This mythology posits that there were two waves of ruination for Southern culture, the Civil War and the civil rights movement, that made blacks get upset and things go downhill".

"Robertson doesn’t seem to acknowledge the possibility that black workers he encountered possessed the most minimal social sophistication and survival skills necessary to not confess dissatisfaction to a white person on a cotton farm (no matter how “trashy” that white person might think himself)".

Just so we're clear on this, you (and the Liberals apparently) believe he doesn't have the right to express his personal religious beliefs in an interview for a magazine that has dick all to do with the show on A&E, without getting fired from his show.

Then again, gross liberal hypocrisy is nothing new. What's more "dangerous", a redneck expressing his personal beliefs in a magazine interview, or the NY Times publishing the addresses of every gun owner in the city? Phil got fired. The editor of the NY Times is still the editor of the NY Times.
Phil expressed a belief. The NY Times engaged in a GROSS display of invasion of privacy, along with potentially endangering the public. But that's ok because it was a bunch of leftists pulling that stunt.
Phil, on the other hand, is a danger to society and must be silenced.

Uhhhhh, no. I believe A&E has a right to do what they see is best to please their advertisers on their network. You folks standing up for the racist homophobe should put him on your network instead.

Gotta love the NY Times on this one. Calling Phil out about his comments while suggesting that the Black workers he encountered were likely uneducated, illiterate and stupid. Not once considering that not all White people south of the Mason-Dixon line treated Black people like shit.

I dont think anyone is saying that he doesnt have the right to say what he did. They are not calling for a boycott of GQ or demanding the article is retracted. Some just took offense to what he said. A&E doesnt feel his view represents the brand for the show they are producing so they took him off.

You keep making it sound like the liberals are in control of all aspects of the media. A&E made a decision to not have him, if they were on another network nothing may have happened. Should the editor have been punished definitely, but apparently the paper (as well as it's readers) supported his actions. A&E did not support Phil so he was suspended.

If a manager at Taco Bell gave an interview and said "Beaners love our bean burritos," would people still be outraged if he was canned?

The first amendment protects you from your government not your employer or public opinion.
