You don't need to register. Just pass a "safe buttering and jam spreading" course and carry the $75 printed-on-toilet paper (Void if Laminated) certificate at all times.

Maybe they are disarming us as they realize how upset we will be when more jobs are outsourced to India, China, Brazil, etc...
Instead of slapping these punks on the bum, knee-jerk politicians want to punish the law-abiding citizens...

That way we can continue to blame the victim.

The article is long on rhetoric and short on specifics. It doesn't say what kind of knives Mandel wants to "control the sale of," what kind have been used, etc. It does say that the guys were charged with "possession of an offensive weapon" and "possession of a prohibited weapon." If it's illegal to posses such a thing, why should it not be illegal to sell it?

Not necessarily, you can get charged with that for carrying a knife for no reason, or carrying a knife for self-defense, but it is still legal to own.

thats right, in Canada you are not allowed to carry anything for self defense. It is illegal.
you have no right to defense with anything unless the attacker brought it and you used it.

Think before you speak. I've heard conservative mps do just as much screaming about stupid things when violence happens. I hate bigoted statements without thought. You can't ever pin crap like this on any single party. geez.

Mandel is a politician, first and foremost. He's part of the problem, not part of the solution. He, and his band of Merry Clowns should be persuing harsh penalties for ciminals, but instead KNOW that it is only a requirement of office to 'be seen to be doing something'!
This is the same council who tried to bring in an anti-idling bylaw, has more than 6,000 homeless, and a 10 year plan to deal with the problem, but wants to spend a few BILLION DOLLARS to host the Olympics with-in the same ten years, ( does anyone have the stats on a city that actually made a profit from such a venture) and has just paid out five million dollars to cover the Indy- race losses which he continues to bleat about what a great deal the city got, and will continue to back-stop! Continues to cut core services, all the while giving themselves healthy raises in salary and perks.
Really, what do you expect from his ilk???
