Wouldn’t the corollary to that be: “ If it is broke, fix it?”

Sorry Doc, posted before I saw your response :(

It's all good. Perhaps he'll read at least one of them.

Like levying a tax on cigarettes or alcohol invades your freedom?

Have you seen cigarettes and alcohol disappear? Go ahead, I'll wait.

DrCaleb DrCaleb:
Why were you born with a right to not be taxed when the rest of us weren't?

I was born with an overwhelming urge/mission to stand up for freedom and the country that I love, and speak out against those who seek to destroy it.

How are electric cars impinging on your freedom?

Go back and read my posts.

EVs themselves are not, the legislation and levees (and taxes) springing up that go against ICE cars in general are.

You know there are taxes on ICE vehicles, right? And motor vehicles are one of the most legislated entities out there. They have their own sections in the law. (Highway Traffic Act)

Death and taxes dude, death and taxes.
ICE vehicles have been over supported by road construction for ages. Just for kicks you should listen to a series of podcasts called THE WAR ON CARS. By Doug Gordon, Aaron naperstak and Sarah Goodyear. You may find it interesting, but I suspect you in particular should cut back on your salt intake first.

Some may say that CDN_PATRIOT doesn't like progress, but that's not true, he picks and chooses what he likes and disregards the rest.

Note: Sorry about that, seems I couldn't resist putting a Simon & Garfunkel lyric in there.

*facepalm*

I love classic cars (I go to shows whenever I can), and half the fun is hearing the engine start up and then idle. To see said classic get going, and enjoy all the sounds and smells (gasoline, exhaust, etc.) is part of the whole experience.

Why in the hell would anyone want to reduce that experience to nothing but looking at said classic? EVs don't make any sounds, and don't replicate the ICE experience, classic or current. I also visit the local oval track from time to time, and went to Mosport International Raceway (now CTMP) for five years in a row to enjoy said experiences.

EVs just aren't the same, and aren't even close.

I also go to the CIAS (and sometimes the NAIAS) every year, and have been going for the last two decades to get my car fix. If car shows end up being all EV all the time, I'll be ending my visits/trips.

I'm already considering not going next year due to the influx of EVs at the show.

I love classic cars too. If I can find an old Mercury M-100 chassis, I will rebuild it as an EV. With less than 100 moving parts in an EV, I prefer driving the vehicle to wrenching on it. And I don't have to pay for gas, I can plug it in the wall socket. And it's faster and cleaner than an ICE.

All upside, no downside. And if you really like the sound, some EVs let you play noises on external speakers to let pedestrians know you are coming. The clip-clop of hooves, the sound or a Romulan War bird, or A Lambo Countach.

So unless your daily driver is a mint 71 Chevy Nova, an EV will make your life easier. And you can still drive the Nova on the weekend.

Meh.

I don't have to worry about the EV thing until at least 2035, so I won't. I intend to keep my Jetta going as far as she possible can. I baby my vehicles a lot, and this one (especially since I've been back in the automotive industry) will be even more pampered.

Interesting choice. Just had the local car show last weekend. Full of those "mint" 1970s pieces of shit we couldn't afford to drive at 39c a gallon that rattled squeaked leaked, misaligned parts, couldn't stop wothin a block... you know those ones that are the very reason Japan kicked Detroit sales to the curb and the Big 3 only sell trucks & SUVs these days.
You now those F150 that the locals drive to WalMart and Costco to save $20 on the groceries and only use $80 worth of gas to get there and back?

At current fuel prices, that 'F-150' takes almost $200 to fill the tank.

Jeez it costs $80 to fill my Wranger... just did on Thursday gotta do it again today.
Then again the state of roads (city streets not highways) is so fucking bad you need a body on frame to survive. Fucking WalMart parking lot is rougher on the car than a rock-crawl trip to the mountaintop radio site.
And it makes me laugh how GM's yapping about their 1100HP Hummer that won't get it to that site any easier, faster or cheaper than my 43HP MiniCab used to....

I filled up my Jetta more than two weeks ago at $62.00. Just hit the half-tank mark on Friday on my way home from work. I can get up to 1000km on a single tank. No EV can even come close to that on a full charge. I can also refuel within minutes, whereas an EV take quite a bit of time to charge, even at a supercharger.
