To be honest, I felt the same way about Princess Diana's death back in 1997. I never understood why people treated her like the second coming of Christ or why they went into hysterics at her death, as if she were their sister or mother or something like that.
Frankly, I found it all more than a little insufferable.
Agreed, it was insufferable.
I knew people who were devastated by Lady Diana's death, and my reply was, "Do you care that much about the dozen people who die every week in car crashes here in Alberta?"
They would talk about how tragic her life was, and I replied, "Living in the total luxury, being waited on hand and foot, eating like royalty, travelling the world on someone else's dime. Yep, that's tragic alright!"
It was really telling when Mother Teresa died a few days afterwards and the world barely noticed it happened. Now that was a tragic death IMHO.
