Federal expenditures in 2010-11 totalled $270.5 billion, compared with $222.2 billion in 2006-07

52 billion in Stimulus evens things up, doesn't it.

Spending obviously has to be brought back under control. We need to get back to budget surpluses.

Only if you use crazy math.

Quote:
The federal government's stimulus spending totalled $24.9 billion in 2009-10 and $20 billion in 2010-11

50 billion dollars of deficit is not explained by 20 billion of expenditures.

Spending watchdogs say the large increase in expenditures over the past five years can be attributed to the economic downturn but also to a minority Parliament for most of that time.

Just the conservative's fault? I have lost most of my respect for the c's, but this is a governmental wide issue. All parties were demanding for 'their' programs to get more money during the minority government period (this includes provincial and civic).

Yup. Taxpayer money is going to agriculture too. They have to make up for turfing the wheat board.
