It's a kindness to try and limit the things that conservatives are outraged about. Lessens the burden on emergency cardiac care.

And the "Libertarian" applauds censorship.

Actually, no I didn't. I made a joke, but even that results in outrage for the perpetually angry, it seems.

I'm not saying I totally disbelieve it - but I'm not convinced yet. 2 red flags:

1) Why the anonymity if they're no longer working there? It's not like they're confessing to having committed a crime where they might have to worry about losing their current job or not being employable afterwards.

2) Gizmodo is the kind of quasi-blog-semi-news-infotainment web site that is not really held accountable to journalistic standards so the perfect place for hoaxes and planted stories.

The above said, the story true or not does show the scary potential for a few people or for a single entity like Facebook to affect what people think and what stories they hear.

Also, anyone who relies on Facebook or Twitter or whatever social media fad du jour for their news stories in the first place should be chemically neutered and banned from ever voting again.

Neither Facebook or Twitter are "fads".

Millions of people, including those in the press, use social media as an outlet and input for information from around the World.

Some 90% of the media is left/liberal and if this person wants to keep working in the media then 'outing' themselves as conservative would be the end of their career in journalism.

Also, Zuckerberg is a vindictive bastard and would likely have the person blacklisted in his circle of contacts.

The same dynamic happens when cops testify in secret against other cops. Unless they're done with their career in law enforcement they'd best maintain their anonymity when speaking out against The Machine.

The same was once said of America OnLine (AOL) and Myspace.

This is illustrated in Facebook's decline in relevance with young people who have moved on to Instagram, Pinterest, Snapchat, and etc. for their social media fix.

Private entity...

They can reflect whatever view makes their shareholders happy, as long as it is inside the law, of course.

1) Even the legitimate news stories have to share space with the batshit conspiracies and internet hoaxes, which somehow seems to destroy credibility of the latter while lending credibility to the former.

2) Stories get circulated based on whether some celebrity dingbat like Kim Kardashian Likes or Retweets it rather than the actual news value. It's news and current affairs stories as curated by some of the most vapid and shallow people on earth.

I didn't see where these people were journalists, they seem to be tech people. Besides, there's plenty of right-wing outlets out there for them.

That's a nice opinion piece but that still doesn't negate the billion + users on Facebook and growing daily. Daily number of users has consistently increased as well.

Facebook and Twitter have changed the news industry and they are ingrained into our lives like never before.

They only share space if people follow them. If people follow only legitimate news sources, like I do, they get legitimate news.

Both sources can be sorted quite nicely to avoid the bullshit from celebrities.

Both Facebook and Twitter proved to be invaluable during the fire in Fort Mac. Amazing way to get news and to ensure family members were safe.
