What indication was there that trump would welcome them with open arms regardless?

Maybe not exactly open arms but we were doing pretty good up to this point. But when you insult the Leader of the free world there will be consequences and if you continue to poke the bear those consequences will continue to escalate which is what's happening.

Quote:
In an extraordinary interview with CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday, Larry Kudlow, who was present for negotiations at the G7 summit in Quebec over the weekend, said Trudeau had instigated “a betrayal” and was “essentially double-crossing President Trump”.

Trudeau used a media conference on Saturday to reject a US demand for a sunset clause in the North American trade agreement, Nafta, that Trump has at different times pressed to abolish or renegotiate. The prime minister also said Canada would “move forward with retaliatory measures” in response to the Trump administration’s move to impose tariffs on aluminium and steel imports from the European Union, Mexico and Canada.

The G7 communique said the leaders of seven of the most powerful countries in the world agreed on the need for “free, fair and mutually beneficial trade” and the importance of fighting protectionism.

Kudlow added that Trump had made the decision to pull out of the agreement in an attempt to save face ahead of his historic summit with North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un, in Singapore.

“Potus [the president of the United States] is not going to let a Canadian prime minister push him around – push him, Potus around, on the eve of this,” Kudlow said. “He is not going to permit any show of weakness on the trip to negotiate with North Korea. Nor should he.”

But this is the best part of the article.

Quote:
A representative of Trudeau did not respond to a request for comment but Canadian foreign minister Chrystia Freeland told reporters in Quebec City: “Canada does not conduct its diplomacy through ad hominem attacks … and we refrain particularly from ad hominem attacks when it comes from a close ally.”
ROTFL

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/201 ... rea-summit

Freeland must either be a sociopath or an idiot because despite her assertion to the contrary she went right out and poked the bear again.

This is beyond coincidence and I defy anyone to show me that Trudeau and his gov't aren't manufacturing crisis in an attempt to look like "tough world leaders" who can stand up to America and Trump. And, I certainly don't believe that this gov't could be so stupid that when this whole renegotiating schmozzle started they didn't understand what and who they're dealing with.

I hope if this band of asshats does mananage to get reelected it's worth it for them because, their insults and inopportune actions are going to end up costing the Canadian population dearly.

He did much worse to the Mexicans, and they have a deal.
Did you forget about that ?

And the whole point was to not have the country suffer, but it looks
like the Lieberals are doing it on purpose.
Or maybe they really are just that stupid.

That maybe true but knowing Trump he will punch back harder and knock her straight outa the ballpark.

Watch foe a snap election in the fall if the talks fail.

Also it’s a majority government so explain to me just how there would be a snap election.

They should have stopped being so retarded before the election.
And taken the microphone away from Justine.

Now ?
Best thing for the Lieberals is to walk away, blame it all on Trump, call an election,

and set new debt records for putting you, your children

That's from the G7, not recently. We also didn't do anything insulting at the G7 other than saying we wouldn't be pushed around. Are we really going to try and spin that Trudeau saying we won't be pushed around is an insult now?

So Freeland's speech on June 13, 2018 is somehow to blame for the steel tariffs Trump announced on May 31, 2018?

[huh]

Canadian quislings are really stretching with this narrative...and even if her speech alluded to Trump, so what? He and his officials have said far worse things about Canada (anyone remember the special place in hell comment on June 10?).

Freeland and Trudeau have stood up to the bully in the past couple months and I support it. Trump would have been a jerk no matter which party was in office - he wants nothing more than to destroy our economy and turn us into an economic colony.

Frankly, I'm at the point where the bully needs to be kicked in the nuts and told he can't have our lunch money, even if it means we're going to get our asses kicked every day after school for the foreseeable future.

It's like dealing with some truly twisted mentalities, like they watched the first three and a half seasons of Game of Thrones and came to the conclusion somehow that Joffrey Lannister was actually the hero of the whole story. If Trump was walking in front of them and came to a sudden stop they'd suddenly be tasting the pancakes he had for breakfast from their tongues going so far up his ass.

Martin and Fiddle and the rest of Trump cultists make Neville Chamerlain look like a fearless war-hawk. “Peace in our time” with Trump, amirite boys? Fuck that.

And we'll have a deal soon enough too, if the deal works for Canada. Trump's hissy fits have fuck all to do with it. He's not an emperor.

Yes.

Trudeau knew who he was dealing with and chose to start playing games with someone who considered him a friend.
Quote:
Hours later, they sat down together behind closed doors. According to a source with knowledge of their discussions, Trump said: “People forget how close we are Justin, and I notice that they took a picture of us smiling and talking and the market went up 200 points.”

Trump would raise that anecdote a couple more times over the course of what was a pivotal meeting, according to an official. Asked what to make of that, the source said perhaps the American president liked to reflect on his power.

All things were going well and Trudeau may have convinced Trump of the benefits of our trade agreements.

Quote:
“The Prime Minister said, ‘Look, here’s the essence of our trading relationship. We sell you a lot of oil and energy and you sell us a lot of food and manufactured goods. It is a trillion dollar relationship. We could pick any one of those things and argue over the numbers. But shouldn’t we be talking about the relationship as a whole, which is an unmitigated positive for both of us?”

Canadian officials believed at the time Trump “got that.” They agreed to accelerate NAFTA talks, but there was no clear path as to the next steps with the tariffs in place.

After their meeting, Trump and Trudeau attended the G7 leaders working dinner on peace and security in the world, a topic where all leaders could find some common ground.

So far so good, right?

Then Trudeau comes out and makes a statement that changed everything especially with the "mercurial" US President.

Quote:
Trump left, skipping the climate change and oceans sessions, but Trudeau took the stage Saturday evening to proclaim all G7 leaders had reached a joint statement, calling the summit a success and outlining his own talks with Trump.

https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/201 ... he-g7.html

It doesn't sound like much but when you're dealing with Trump, exposing what he thought was said in confidence and saying he was in agreement with the other leaders when he wasn't made him look weak and was enough to send him over the edge and quite possibly made worse because he though Trudeau was a friend.

Trudeau and the Canadian Gov't should have known who they were dealing with long before they even went to the G7 or stepped up to the NAFTA negotiation table so, they're either remiss in their understanding of our largest trading partner or they purposely chose to piss Trump off for their own benefit.

Then when Freeland went out and started her ad hominem acceptance speech where every person on the planet knew she was talking about Trump and his administration it was enough to put us behind the proverbial 8 ball when it comes to negotiating a fair deal especially when we're dealing with someone as narcissistic as Donald Trump.

https://foreignpolicy.com/2018/06/14/20 ... ranscript/

So which is it. A complete knieveity on the part of the Liberals or, for Canadian consumption a deliberate attempt to look like they're standing up to the Americans?

I say again FOG: Congress ultimately has to approve anything Trump wants to do, and trade war with Canada would be a big one affecting many congressmen directly. They could give a flying fuck about Trumps delicate ego or hurt feelings you really think that matters to them?

Your efforts to portray Trump as friendly neighbour done wrong by evil Canada are laughable.

And Trudeau knows exactly who he’s dealing with: Trumps administration is weak, unpopular, incompetent and scandal-plagued and the Congress that would have to approve his economic self-destruction plan - which is also deeply unpopular in the business community - is heading into a mid-term election that the Democrats are already expected to sweep.

No matter how much you keep trying to portray Trump as some kind of uniquely powerful global force to be kowtowed to, the fact is he’s just an unpopular buffoon with a ticking clock on him, not some unstoppable force of nature.

Just to make this clear, now and for all time, calling someone a 'traitor' is pretty much the worst personal insult I can think of.

Unless they have actually been charged with 'treason', calling any member of the board that, will result in a warning - minimum.
