How do they know they were street racing if they were only going 20 or 30 over?

True, in California if you're 20-30km over the limit we just call it 'commuting to work'.

Heck, on the freeways here if you do the speed limit you can actually get a ticket for impeding the flow of traffic if the traffic is going faster than you are.
When me an my friend come home from work together, we will generally get going 100 in a 60. Cause it's like 1 am and no one is on the road. So I guess we are street racers.
That is far too fast in a 60, in BC you would get a hefty fine if caught.

You would here too ;) Note, this is a two lane road at one in the morning with no one around. And we normally back off once we hit that ;) But on a highway, most people are going 30-40 over.

I typically work on Memorial Day (the last Monday in May) and I enjoy it for the fact that the freeways are literally empty at 6am those days.

It's the one time in the entire year where I can get on the freeway and unwind my little Volvo out to 200Kmph while driving through downtown Sacramento and there's no one else on the road. Not even the cops. It's so amazingly cool and surreal to be on a road that's normally wall-to-wall traffic and setting the cruise control at balls out. 8)

The commute that usually takes me 50 minutes takes just about 15.

20 to 30 km over the limit? You can drive 110-120km/h along Yonge Street?

On the stretch of Yonge Street where it happened, it's almost rural.

I hate to say this, but... Manchester was drunk and made a left in front of the speeding cars?

Sorry, but had he not died, he'd likely face charges himself... and it's lucky he didn't kill anyone either.

I had been thinking the same thing. Manchester is a victim in this case simply because he died. Had the roles been reversed and a drunken Manchester survived while a street racer kid died, people would be looking to have him imprisoned for life.

The actions of both the kids and the drunk were reprehensible and both deserved punishment under the law. It's horrible that the kid is going to have to live without her parents, but in the spirit of justice, lets also not exonerate Manchester simply because of his daughter's impending hardship.

Agreed and well put.
