It's almost fractal in nature, but I'd bet there are no two angles in it the same. But it still fits in the rectangular confines.

I wonder if they are just trying out engineering and surveying techniques.

There are a few that are the same, but you are right, for the most part the angles are completely random.

If you copy any of those pictures then increase the exposure of them on a photo editing program you can see they're all pictures of other things in other places that have been laid over top of the google maps pictures.

Clever, but the person who did it should be horsewhipped for their malicious interference.

Just to screw with people? if there was a hole in Google Earth that let people cram in their own imagery I don't know why this would be what they did. You'd think it would be something like pornography or expletives or something.

You would also think it would be everywhere and constant; not a one time case of some desert in China.

They did it to mess with the minds of people wearing tinfoil hats who are eager to believe all kinds of conspiracy theories and believe the worst of China. Guess who that might be that would take the bait hook, line and sinker. LOL.

Edit the pictures and see for yourself. They're just obscure images laid over top of google earth images.
