That's gotta be good for Germany and other exporting (outside the EU) countries. Git yer Ferraris here, two for the price of one. Or a nice Moto Guzzi. Saw a new one the other day, didn't know they were still made.

This was a loooooong time coming.
Greece never had any budgetting skills.
They never should have joined the Euro, and why should the European tax payers pay for Greece's pensions at their 55 while they Europeans who are paying have to work till 67 because of it?

Thats just one example. Finally the Euro zone is showing some balls.

So . . . how can he call a referendum on a deal that doesn't exist?

I thought our politicos were idiots, this guy adds a whole new rainbow to the spectrum.

Well no, he was offered a bailout package with conditions. He can take that to the people. Good luck formulating a referendum question that explains the deal and the ramifications of yes or no. But then this is just show and cya anyway. And voting yes just kicks the problem down the road a bit while the economy suffers the death of a thousand cuts. Better to just cut the throat and get it over with.

While Britain is still in the EU, as Greece collapses, wonder how many Greek refugees the EU will get. Better to get welfare in Britain than starve at home.

The most obvious problem in Greece is that they need to raise their minimum wage and impose far higher taxes on the rich.

No, he can't.

Of course he can, since he is.

I see your stupidity will extend even into this area. Good.

This is the question.

It's 2 hours old.

And just for fun, this is the question in Greek.

Don't know how the goat farmers in the hills will be able to read all the English in that question.

Also interesting that the 'NO' response is listed first.

Free and fair referendum, right.
Banks are closed.
Gas stations will run out in 3 days.
Supermarkets by the end of week.
And a supremely retarded question like that

How are they supposed to run a fair vote under these kinds of conditions ?

Anyway, the proposal referred to in the question expires at lunchtime tomorrow.

And then all bets are off.

Asking a question about a deal that is already expired is just laughable.

^^ That. The deal expires before the referendum. How can he have a referendum when there is no deal to vote on?

Greece is swirling around the bowl.

I'm sure the EU would fall all over themselves to extend the deal if Greece accepted it.

I think he's realized it's time to just let Greece flush and get it over with. Seems like the right thing to do, since there isn't a deal anywhere in sight that would allow Greece to actually recover, instead of just swirling for ever.

I really don't see why they would. Greece has done the old 'cheque is in the mail' routine, and has been for weeks. There comes a time when it's no longer a good idea to postpone the inevitable.

Let Greece have their 'dignity' when they become the new 'Wetbacks' of Europe.

It is my impression that the EU is more interested in keeping Greece in the EU, than Greece is in staying. Maybe both sides have realized it's over, but I wouldn't be surprised if the EU still pulls something out of it's hat at the last minute. This is going to hurt everybody (us too) not just the Greeks.
