Or is she only going to places that actually tolerate dissent and criticism?

Judging by the number of big strong men threatened by a little a girl trying to make a change in her world, we don't seem to tolerate dissent or criticism either.

Silly you. There are plenty of women such as myself who find this poor benighted child little more than a pawn in the climate change battle. Strange how the left love using children for their own ends. She'll be yesterdays news when the next little kid is put forward by it's parents in order to sell books and promote themselves by using their kid. Sad that.

And then there are people like me who aren't as jaded as you. No one is using her, she is making the change in the world that she feels needs to be made.

Utopia is subjective. One Person's Utopia may be another's Dystopia.

(Remember, Universe 25 was supposed to be a Utopia)

I think that must be a rule of argumentation...

If you don't believe believe in what a person is saying and you have no arguments against it, attack the person's character or "mental stability" or say that he/she is being "used".

Seems quite obvious who the people that have never raised a teen are on this board.

It's actually one of the classic logical fallacies that Archimedes defined thousands of years ago. "Ad Hominem". And I'm responding to it in exactly the same way he did. ;)

Yup. I'm pretty sure that a 16 year old girl is quite capable of making choices for herself. Especially considering her parents didn't give two shits about the environment before her activism. And let's not forget the millions of children and adults who also support her. I doubt they are paid shills too.

I fail to see how she would even be on the listing for the Nobel PEACE Prize....

The awarded individual, on the other hand, has actually done a significant amount for peace.

It is kind of refreshing to see this award go to a person that actually does deserve it...sorry Obama, I like ya, but you never should have gotten yours.

She was nominated for her climate activism back in March. I don't see why it's a surprise either. Lots of people get nominated. Few win.

I apologize, I should have been clearer.

I am wondering why she would be nominated for a PEACE prize, period.

Climatology is from the scientific fields, as is the activism that pertains to it.

Once upon a time, even the Peace prize did have meaning, which gets diluted when it becomes the "catch all" for any feel good nominations.

As for her ever winning? That would be a very tough sell for me. There have been more deserving youth already, which have gotten no accolades for their actions, yet we want to give out awards for words.

She wasn't practicing the sciences, she was bringing kids together to demand politicians do something with what they already know, through peaceful protest. Not unlike Malala peacefully advocating for girls to be educated.

Seems like a Peace Prize sort of thing. And definitely there were more deserving to be nominated. And the guy who won also deserved it.

So an angry 17 year old lecturing adults on what to do. Demanding "that they not listen to her but listen to the science" is being peaceful? I'm sorry but can you tell me when being angry and demanding of others to do what you tell them to do makes you a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize [huh]

Words are peaceful. Blowing up cars is not peaceful. Demands are words, not violence.

Rather than getting hung up on her age, or gender, or anger, perhaps you should be asking why adults need to be lectured by her in order to do the right thing in the first place?

So anger expressed in words are now considered peaceful. Good to know so from now on I want you and all others to proclaim Trump a peaceful person. He is just using words. Just to get this strait being an angry person is now considered okay and you must be listen to and do what the angry person tells you to do.

The real question should be why do some adults allow her to lecture them.

Given that her parents are Antifa supporters/members then her activist parents didn't give two shits about the environment until they thought they could use it to advance their socialist/communist/anarchist agenda.

Ghandi once defined violence as "forcing your will upon another". Words are not force. And Trump is not peaceful, so long as he advocates violence toward others.

And do people not have the right to free speech anymore? Does it still accompany the right to not listen?
