And they do again. The JSDFN is the #1 power in the Western Pacific - and anymore that includes accounting for the USA given that we barely even keep a task force in the area these days.

In '79 the Chinese learned first hand what kind of mad skills the Vietnamese acquired after years of jungle fighting against the French and Americans. The Chinese casualty estimates were far higher than estimated Vietnamese casualties.

Options for revenge against Japan ended the minute they unconditionally surrendered and signed a document stating so that also had the signatures of recognized Chinese government representatives on it. Maybe this means nothing to the ChiComs today, or to some fearsome armchair drinkers-of-blood like yourself, but it means that if China attacks Japan over what happene seventy or eighty years ago, the US and a whole bunch of others (probably including Canada) go to war in Japans defense. The Japanese are a civilized, democratic, and honourable allied nation & people. Their fascism was burnt out of them with nuclear fire and they kind of joined the good guys team after they learned their lesson and came to their senses. Do make a better effort at getting over the fact that we won the last war against them.

You're looking at the wrong side of the line. Their line represents the 200 mile limit from the islands they claim. The proximity of that line to Vietnam is coincidental.
