DerbyX, whether you like to recognize it or not ryan is right.

The riding is strongly PC and will go back to the PC fold in 2011. The reason it went Liberal was because of PC voters either staying home or voting Liberal over anger of losing Laurie Scott and having John Tory parachuted in with no local roots.

You may think this is a sweet win for your beloved Liberals, but think again. This is, in the long run, a bad day for the Liberals. John Tory would have lost another election. By this happening it allows the PCs to elect a fresh face to lead the party who can mount a serious challenge to the governing Liberals in 2011.

The reality is that this demonstrated beyond even the most blinded partisan hack that Tory's political judgment is absolutely terrible! He got rejected by core supporters (which, by the way, also happened in the provincial election too) and evidently he pissed off more people than any McGuinty or the recession. He's a loser and he's done.

John Tory is an ineffectual tool who has proved that he = fail when it comes to politics. Good riddance, although I do feel a little bad for him.

I agree with everything, but i don't feel bad for him, even a little bit. 8O

I loved his comment " I guess I am too honest for politics" .... says alot for politicians.. especially crooked torys.. He didn't have it and the people of that riding. ( I have relatives living there) will not vote for Scott again ,, she is washed up. They didnt like being used by a parachute candidate and up-rooting the persons they voted in to make a seat for a loser.

the liberals will have a hard time holdng this riding in the long run is there is not really alot of them there and many more conservatives they just didn't seem to like tory the same way they did lauries scott or other former pc mpp chris hodgson .

That's complete horseshit. This riding doesn't support EITHER party on party lines. It has always maintained a loyalty to one candidate who represents its interests well, regardless of party. John Eakins (Lib) was MPP here for over 20 years (70s and 80s). Laurie Scott's dad (Bill-PC) was the MP here for about 20 years too. Why would we vote a PC federally and a Liberal provincially if this were a party-blind riding? Tory was voted down because he's not a local. It has nothing to do with which party he represented. If Laurie Scott were to run for the Liberals or the NDP next or as an independent, she'd win.

You might think Harper won but think again. The left vote defeated the right vote. Were it not for 3 left parties against a united right then Harper would be shining shoes in you local. In other words were it not for die hard conservatives the would still be a third party status bunch of losers.

Canada is a left wing liberal country despite your bigotry and the bigotry of religious zealots like yourself.

Despite the economic downturn people in Ontario still voted Liberal, in contradiction to your belief way back when.

Face it. Your political ideology is simply wrong.

Were

Wow you're a pompous asshole. There's the good 'ol liberal spirit "your ideology is wrong, its backwards, its bigoted, liberalism is the right way", so much for your tolerance, eh?

And yes, 62% of Canadians votes for parties other than the Conservatives who would be centre-left. Yet, what you fail to realize is we are in a multi party system. There are many moderate centrist people within are system. A big chunk of Liberal votes would be by moderate centrists. Similar with a reasonable percentage of Conservative voters would be moderate centrists. If we were to be in a 2 party system like the United States, it would be down the line 50/50. With moderates picking different sides.

Another thing you seem to forget is the Conservatives improved their standings last election in Ontario holding the most seats in that province.

And I'm a religious zealot? Thank you very much for that. Little do you realize I'm agnostic and just the other day got into a bitter argument with my evangelical mom over my right to open myself up to other points of view and watch Bill Mayher's Religulous.

Fuck off. You represent everything about the Liberal Party in this country I despise. The arrogant elitism that runs so rampant. Read what you said. Read your pathetic words. You pompously declared us a left wing nation...based on what? Take opinion polls on a variety of issues and Canadians are pretty down the middle. Majority of us want the death penalty back. Majority of us want more restrictions on abortions. The majority of us opposed the carbon tax proposed by the Liberals. Yes our institutions and legal system and everything else may be liberal but are people aren't.

Then you go on with your arrogant tirade calling my ideology wrong and bigoted? I guess your not much of a fan of democracy. Most people I know, even on the left, respect right wingers ideology even if they disagree with it (and vice versa I respect their views). And they'd never have the audacity to make such assanine arrogant remarks.

I hardly think an ideology that promotes personal responsibility over ones life, decentralized government to allow for more local solutions, economic liberty and freedom, equal opportunity, a justice system that provides justice for victims, a strong military to defend our interests is "simply wrong".

Fuck you piss me off. You pompous moron. You represent almost all the characteristics of the Liberal Party I hate.

Wow, I'm glad I was able to get tickets:

During hard times in the past, the general trend has been to vote Liberal or red Conservative such as Bill Davis. The choices for replacing Tory include some that are far right. Given the legacy of Harris, I would suspect that a right wing Conservative leader does not have a chance at winning Ontario.
