I really didn't know they were such an important national institution.
They've been around throughout many people's journey from teen to adult. They sing about things only Canadians know about. I don't know if they'd be a 'national institution', but they certainly are a part of people's memories and a part of our unique culture.
Even if you aren't a fan, I'll bet you recognize many of the lyrics.
