That's just plain dumb. Now that salary will affect their cap this year. Unless his contract doesn't allow it, they would have been better to put him on waivers and send him to the minors. Yes, they would still have to pay him, but it wouldn't count on the cap. That appears to be the only advantage wealthy clubs have anymore.
