It is not so much Harper giving up the throne as the lack of a viable alternative. Iggy needs some time to show the public a platform and to to build public support for Liberal policies.

If the liberals force an election in the next few months it might cost them heavily in the polls. A year or more down the road might be better timing for the party. They would be more financially secure and be able to flex their political muscle. Canadians will have suffered through the recession and the upswing in the market and the economy could happen in 2010. Of course that assumes there are no Liberal blunders in the meantime that would spoil the party's chances.

Umm to be honest here, it is the Liberals who have the power to take down the government if they want. They are just choosing not too, so explain how this is Harper's doing?

maybe the liberals are starting to realise they are not acompolishing anything , well they have coronated iggy as there leader , the conservatives are actually out there doing things , projects like highways , water systems repairs , local roads , transit are being announced and the liberals have yet to put forward a plan as to what they plan on doing differently . so you wonder there in no rush for an election .
