Agreed. The modern nation of Canada wasn't founded on yelling "firsties" between the French, Indians and British... Canada as it is today was founded by the British after fighting long and hard for it. I am against any alterations that attempt to strip Canada of its Britishness. We adapt and change as time goes on, the French, Indians and other groups have all pulled together to make the nation what it is today; celebrate the nation we have become, don't try and kick at the foundations... :rock: :rock: :rock:

Well actually, it was founded on a coalition between the English-Canadians and French-Canadians like it or not but I like your single-mindedness anything British. The Indians were just left in the heap unfortunately but didn't do any less to develop it. Funny how that is missing or 'altered' in some peoples history of Canada like the Revolutionary War and 1812 where the French didn't exist. :rock: :rock: :rock:

Anyways, flag is fine, keep it as it is.

Ok so, the flag is:

UK flag in the corner on a red background. There's a bull and the England cross.
It's quite difficult for me to say something here because we changed our flag for a really nice one in 1960 (Quebec).

I would get the Union Jack out. The bull and the England cross is OK I think. But there's that red background that I don't like. Maybe you can start from there.

Never said anything about the population itself, what I was saying was that the symbols and government are rightly British-oriented due to the British winning the wars that led to the founding of the nation. As I mentioned, the groups later came together and forged a more perfect union (to steal the words from our southern neighbours) and it continues to be enriched to this day by its diversity. However, the founding pillars are British, and I firmly believe in retaining those symbols and traditions. :rock: :rock: :rock:

I think if it was the same colour of red, it would work decently if you removed the Union Jack and moved the Coat of Arms to the centre, a la Alberta.

What the hell is wrong with the Union Jack as part of the provincial flag? Hell, the state flag of Hawaii has one too.

Britain winning the wars was the founding of a colony, not a nation (you still neglected the French and Indians). Regardless, Canada as it is today was not founded by Britain as itself and if that were true, we wouldn't have two official languages, which sucks.

Yes, although the colony grew with the English, French and Indians coming together (against the Americans) it was still made a nation under British rule and emerged from the former colony into a nation in the British Commonwealth. So I hold that yes, indeed, Canada is a British nation... albeit one with an important and vital French population along with the Natives. I do not demand British symbols to be put where there are none, but do not remove them for modern post-colonial spite... Try to take the fleur-de-lis from the Quebec flag and see what happens... :-)
See what I'm saying?

@SheperdsDog: (I won't copy the picture)

That's a HELL of an ugly flag. :P

That's like French flag (blue, white and red) or Dutch and with a Union Jack.

What were they thinking ?
