The news has been talking that many folks who would have otherwise made the trek to watch the Olympics live are deciding not to or have changed their plans and cancelled tickets to go.. with what's been going on over there, myself I would not risk it

If I had the money and R&R and not a US DHS/USCG Travel Alert to follow, I would still go in a heart beat. Last Winter Games I went to where in Turin and before that Calgary. I had a blast at both Winter site's.

Yes, I have seen that on the news too, including the parents of an athlete deciding not to go and watch their son compete.

On one hand... with what's been going on and the threats that have been made for further "incidents" occurring I can definitely understand why some people would change their minds about attending the games.

On the other hand... that's what "they" want... for everyone to fear them. Shitty that a relative handful of people can hold the rest of the population in fear like that.

Just came across this article. Seems quite a few NHL players are not having their families travel to Russia either.

Just my humble opinion here: While there is legitimate concern about terrorism at Sochi I think some of this is being exaggerated by the Obama Administration's hostility towards Russia over the Snowden affair and gay rights. I suspect that much of this drama in the media is intended to hurt Russia financially and to embarrass Putin.

I don't think these people are listening to any of the old Russia hands left in government who'd tell them that if the West ruins the finances of Sochi that the Russians won't blame Putin, they'll blame the West. It's just how they roll.

Were it my call I'd advise people to be cautious, to stay within the security perimeter, and to have a good time.

Frankly, I expect more violence, crime, and bloodshed at the Rio Games in two years when the local criminal element descends on the hordes of tourists like a pack of wolves.

All depends on how the Chechen black widows choose to behave. Could make Munich look uneventful in comparison if the bitches find a weak spot to get in through.

I have to wonder about the Chechens if they're truly thinking this through. If they attack the games then no country in the world will blame Putin for what he does next.

I'm amused that these people think the Russians won't be able to secure an area. They'll kill everyone in Chechnya and Krasnodar Krai if necessary to keep the Olympics safe.

I'm thinking they should do that anyway.
