14 people shot, 1 dead in Toronto's Greektown neighborhood. The shooter is also dead. No word on whether the shooter killed himself, or was shot by the police. No word on the motive. :(

There seems to be serious security lapse going on in Security system/architecture of Canada.

Too many incidents occurred recently.

How many Canadians own guns? Is it easy to buy gun in Canada? Mass shooting like that is more common in US than in Canada, I think.

Sad for casualty...hope injured ones don't succumb

I'm going to be interested to hear about what happened over the next few days before this gets filed right beside the van attack incident and we resume our national obsession with the Humboldt tragedy.

Unless the person telegraphs their intentions to do something like this, there is no way to prevent it.

It's the price we pay for living in a free society.

IIRC Gun ownership is 35 guns per 100 people. It puts us 5th in the world for gun ownership. This is bound to happen, as DrCaleb alludes, its the price we pay for our free and open society.

My first guess was some sort of gang revenge shooting but then you see this:

$1:
Police Chief Mark Saunders said terrorism had not been ruled out. Toronto police tweeted the shooting occurred in the Danforth and Logan avenues area of the Greektown neighbourhood, a busy residential area with restaurants and cafes.

and you notice they're not giving out the name of the shooter or the restaurant.

Lone wolf? Kosher restaurant? Who knows. It's hard not to get conspiratorial when they keep details hidden.

The UK's Daily Mail says this:

$1:
Witnesses also described seeing several people on the ground inside Mezes Restaurant, although it was unclear if they were hiding or injured.

Not sure if that means Mezes was the target but I googled it and it seems to be a Greek restaurant. Which would make sense because apparently they call the area "Greek town."

Other British Tabloids are suggesting it was Mezes:

$1:
In shocking footage from the scene, a man wearing black walks down the street past Mezes restaurant.

As he moves quickly, he suddenly turns right to the restaurant out of shot.

Sounds like a popular eatery. They say it's usually crowded.

Handguns are even more difficult to acquire legally and this guy was using a handgun.

The authorities are not releasing the name of the shooter and anymore that seems to be SOP to buy them time until they can shut down the shooter's social media accounts.

Thoughts on the motivation:

1. I'm ruling out the standard 'crazy guy' because he bypassed people on the street in order to shoot into specific targets.

2. Possibly upset over Greek treatment of Albania, issues with Macedonia, upset over Greek refusal to accept more Islamic immigrants.

A lot of that is multiple to single people. I think the Doc has it right in 1 in 4 own them.
