Actually, they're both. They have become a metaphor, but the 1% certainly exists as a statistical, demographic group. The metaphorical "1%" is probably more like the top 10%. In some folks minds, it's likely the top 50% on the income scale. Back in the day they just called it "the Man".

Fair enough. Just thought I had to point out that part of the nature of it before we all started drawing up a list of names.

The vast majority of religious people, that I know, who share the story of Noah (Christian, Jew and Muslim...including clergy)) all think it's just a story. Not just some....MOST.

No, what created the post-war boom in North America was the fact that we still had an industrial base and everyone else had smoking rubble. Therefore anything they wanted to buy had to come from the USA or Canada.

Absent that advantage we'd have been in a postwar recession like everyone else was.
