I really want to believe that no one would stoop so low as to shoot any driver of a vehicle knowing that a child was in the car! Rather, I'm thinking that the shooter recognized the car and thought the driver was someone else and didn't see the carseat in the back.

Do not underestimate the capacity of these monsters for cruelty, especially when it's gang or drug related.

I'm hoping also that it is not a case of 'my naivete' in overdrive' to believe that in every human being exists at least a small ' sliver of humanity/compassion'.

Welcome to my neighborhood.

In related news:

Safety Minister Declares BC Canadian Gang Capital
Van Loan says Vancouver Especially Bad
2/17/2009

Bad news from federal Public Safety Minister Peter Van Loan on the issue of gangs.
Van Loan says BC, and Vancouver in particular, has become the centre of organized crime in this country.
He says Metro Vancouver has not only the highest number of gangs but it's also got the highest number of very serious and sophisticated gangs.
Van Loan says making laws tougher against gangsters has been a priority of the Conservatives for several years, but each time they are stymied by the opposition parties in the commons.

The only punks they have were the ones the other punks shot and they were already on bail for gun related crimes. The manditory jail sentance for illegal handguns that the Conservatives forced through would have taken these punks off the street.

.. but BC judges don't have the balls or were paid not to use them.

"You can tell it's gangland," said Flamand. "They're going after the females, I guess. It's going to get a lot worse now."

After both sides have tried to prove they are the baddest psychopaths going by killing each others women, which side will be the first to up the ante and start killing thier kids?

Tie them to a stake in town square when they catch these guys and burn them.

VANCOUVER - RCMP have identified the woman killed in Monday's shooting on 96th Ave & 148th St in Surrey. Nicole Marie Alemy, 23, of White Rock was shot to death, while her 4-year-old son in the back seat was not hurt. One source says Alemy actually lives in Delta, and is married to a known UN gangster Koshan Alemy. IHIT continues their investigating, and have not yet linked the shooting to any other recent shootings in the Lower Mainland. They have so far not mentioned Alemy's relation to any gang members. (News 1130)

With the federal minister in town, I hope he reads the riot act to that useless lapdog Oppal and the rest of his legal cronies.

Diddn't most people here say Toronto had the worst gangs/gun violence? Yet all you see is Vancouver this, and Vancouver that.

I feel bad for the kid, no one should have to see that let alone a 4 year old, there will be some repressed memories in this kids future, I do not however feel bad for the girl if she was connected to gangs, an innocent bystander sure, but this was targeted.
As far as those saying that the shooter(s) didn't know there was a kid in the car, forget it, these gangs don't care about it, to them this kid was a future rival, it's a miracle they didn't shoot the kid too.
My solution to the gang problem is simple, lock them all up on whatever you can get them for and put the rival gangs in the same cells, winner gets deported or life for murder.

Sounds more like the effects of smoking crooked cigarettes than drinking one too many wobbly pops to me... :P
