Nike may have "just done it" but was it worth it?

If the public backlash against other corporate brand names who have taken a vocal political stance is any indication, Nike faces considerably more pressure: companies from Dick's (which saw a sharp decline in sales after it stopped selling guns), to ESPN, to Papa John's, to Twitter and Facebook, to In-N-Out burger, have all seen an angry customer backlash - from either the left or the right - once these corporations entered the political arena, resulting in a hit to the top line, and ultimately, the shareholders' pocket.

And this could be a problem - #BoycottNike is now the number 1 trending topic on Twitter in the US...

That is a loss of over $4 billion in market capitalization since the market close on Friday...

Were any of them smart enough to take the shoes off first before they soaked them in kerosene and lit the matches?

CBC, virtue signaling the hell out of it.

Funny, they dont allow comments, especially those who might want
to point the market cap losses.
Incredible.

Meanwhile, in the real world....

When people are pissed enough to burn your product THAT THEY ALREADY OWN then your company and brand are dead.

Americans... will protest when your spokes-model kneels during the National Anthem, but not when the company sells grossly overprices shoes manufactured overseas in what are essentially sweatshops.

Nike is getting killed in nationwide polling right now. Every broad poll is going hard negative against the firm.

I expect them to have an emergency board meeting today (right now possibly) or tomorrow and then fire the CEO and the jackass.

Nike is far from dead.

In typical American fashion, you think the world revolves around you. Nike's products are sold worldwide and with the current dislike for your country and president, I wouldn't expect any issues with product sales outside of the US.

I am shocked, SHOCKED that having a player that is so toxic that NO NFL team will touch with a 50 foot pole as a mascot for an ad campaign would go over like a lead balloon.

This was totally unpredictable.

Funny, but this topic is one of those “wait and see” things. State your claim, ice the topic and review in 6 months and again in one year. My bet is Nike will be cruz’n along in 6 and 12 mo. Some of you say they are toast! Not long to wait. So make your claim, calm down and come back. Quit slobbering about it.

By the way. I’m wondering if Nike even makes clothes that will fit your average NFL hardliners. Hats big enough, however, are available in the preschoolers section
