Thats never going to happen. Police officers have Qualified Immunity from lawsuits for actions that they take under colour of law. Any such lawsuit against Mr. Wilson would never see the inside of a courtroom. The family could try to sue the local municipality that employed Mr. Wilson. They would probably hand over a handsome amount just to prevent the inevitable rioting, and looting that would surely occur during the lawsuit proceedings.

Different burdens of proof between criminal and civil court. In the latter, it just has to be likely than not to have done what your're sued for as opposed to beyond a reasonable doubt.

I don't find that too unreasonable. And it's far better than Italy where seismologists are put on trial for not accurately predicting an earthquake or where the legal concept of double jeopardy doesn't apply like in the case of Amanda Knox or where people are often tried in absentia.

The Obama Administration is not interested in this anymore so it's over. There are no more political points to be had in this incident so they're moving on to yet another crisis that they won't let go to waste.
