If I were one of the 25 who lived there before the Kanawake reserve situation started me resppnse in English, French and Mohawk
would be a loud resounding FUCK YOU.
I respect the native culture but when they start their own version pf the Neuemburg laws of 1939, my North American attitude would kick in.

No worse, no better, than Quebec's language laws.

The optics stink, but “we” (non-natives) put them on a specified piece of land and implied it was their home, I guess they have the right to say who can live there.

This is where the misguided concept of sovereign "nations" existing within the Canadian federation inevitably leads. Just as in Quebec with the PQ/BQ as their representatives, these little piss-pot islands of sovereignty are usually hijacked by the worst radicals, bigots, and full-blown racists one can find.

Granted, but when it comes to a no mixed marriages policy and eviction of people in relationships with Mohawk band members it stinks of fasism. Truthfully if they want to be a seperate society then the land given to them should be fenced off, they should develop their own currency, police themselves and take in every mohawk living off of the res.

I like this part "In the 1980s, some Mohawks contested the policy before the human rights tribunal, but lost. The courts have ruled that Mohawks can make any membership policy they deem necessary for their survival as a people.
Too bad we don't have the same rights eh?

Try telling the Mohawks that they aren't white enough to live anywhere in Canada but the reserves and see how fucking far you get. You'd have the Charter Police dragging your ass into court before you could spell racist.
But, given the unrest, complete disregard of authority and total anarchy on the Mohawk reserves, it is quite apparent that there are two seperate sets of laws in Canada, one for the Mohawks and one for the rest of us.
If this is allowed to happen in complete contravention of the Charter, it will prove once and for all that the fair application of said document is nothing more than an farce being perpetrated on the majority of law abiding Canadians, by a elite group of the judiciary.

Right on Alexandre... not even close to the subject, but there are those who express their anti-Québec rhetoric at every turn no matter if it relates or not!

Totally agree with "Choban." Except take all the modern things such as vehicles 4 wheelers, snowmobiles, electronics and let them survive like they did 100 years ago. I guess we can start rounding up any Mohawks and place them back on the reserve. As a free, peaceful country, it frustrates me that I voluntarily went to Afghanistan, only to see shit like this happen here in Canada.

This appears to be another version of the same "we are special" and we have our rights bullshit that so many natives are pushing in the faces of the rest of us. I think it is time to push back, especially when these non-natives are in relationships with natives. I guess they figure that they can inact race based laws and scream racism when they feel that a national law is against them. Typical native double standard.

I say we give every reserve in Canada a choice, renounce all treaty rights and join Canada. Or we send in the army conquer the reserves and kick them all out. In the interest of the Canadian people. Since the SCC has ruled that doing something to protect a people is acceptable.
