You learn something new everyday. I wonder if the same thing is happening up here because if it is we've never heard about it?

Although in the Kelowna fire my brother said all the million dollar homes got a coating of fire retardant while the rest burned. So it's quite possible that our insurance companies have their own paid fire depts.

I remember reading about this a few years ago. It’s as infuriating to read again now as it was back then. How do those ronin firefighters sleep at night, protecting the ultra rich’s houses while the plebes houses burn.

I didn't even know this was a thing, and now that I do, I can say it's extremely distasteful.

These are insurance companies that hire private fire crews to protect the homes that they insure... probably costs them less than paying out if the homes are burnt to the ground.

Eventually, the insurance companies will get greedy enough to stop insuring people who build in forest-fire prone areas, like they do in flood zones.

Spoken like a true Socialist.

Yes, let's wait for the government, so that way everyone's house can burn equally.

Is that a better solution for you ?

Au contraire! They are actually building in known fire zones, willingly!

https://www.latimes.com/california/stor ... fire-zones

And why shouldn't the filthy rich have the means to protect themselves in ways us plebes can't? I mean, they don't pay taxes for regular fire service, why shouldn't they hire their own?

If they are not First Responders, then they shouldn't be allowed in the evacuation zones. This just highlights the Plutocracy that is building in the United States.

Sorry, yes, but my point was that they rebuild homes flooded in flood zones so they can get flooded again next year; now they are building homes in fire zones that get hit regularly with wildfires. In Alberta, we actually had to legislate that homes couldn't be rebuilt in a flood zone.

But insurance companies still insure them. :( I too would think that insurance companies would not insure them because of that fact. But they do.

Assuming people even carry insurance on them.
