I am an immigrant, a woman, and a non-christian. Thanks, seriously.

On that note Brenda. I personally blame you for this being both a woman and a bloody immigrant!

Replace it with something sensible, that part's just stupid anyway.
WTF does "in all thy sons command" mean? Order your sons to be patriots? They'll tell you to F.O.A.D.
And "thou dost in us command", who the fuck is thou and who is thou to tell us what to do?
Find something that end-rhymes with land. And if someone can do that and tie in words saying we're patriots because we choose to be or want to be, without implying we're only doing it cuz we're "told to" that would be perfect.
It's kinda simple..

"True patriot love thou dost in us command"

Basically, the song "O Canada" starts out identifying Canada and somewhat personifying it by suggesting it can influence the will of Canadians. O Canada, our home and native land, True patriot love thou dost command. Thou is Canada. Dost basically means 'is'. And then 'Commanding', suggesting Canada itself commands our patriotism.

It's patriotic in the sense that there is no bias, just patriotism.

True, but it's 2010. Thou and dost are so obsoleted...

O CKA R ohm N 8tiv LAN....

True patriot love, propelled by oil sand...

Treu patriot love, forstbitten or suntanned...

I still wouldn't mind if this was turned into our anthem:

Still my favorite Molson ad ever! I've had this one saved in my download file for awhile now. Well put together, a little bit of everything Canadian.

Yeah but then you sorta gotta shove two syllables into a space that only had one, and it sounds kinda funny..

Know we know why harper prorogued parliament for 2 months...cabinet had to gather around is piano and rehearse the new version.

"Thou dost" line is cumbersome to sing and nobody likes talking like that anyway. I think the word "command" in this line is used in a more nuanced way, such as "possess" e.g. "The Roughriders command an impressive lead going into the 4th quarter."

For all the bru-ha-ha the political right caused the last time this issue popped up in the press a few years ago, its surprising that they came up with idea this time around. Especially after Harper crowed over the Olympics insiring new-found patriotism.

Red Herring issue.

If we're going to change it, we should build the French version, its much more insiring: it talks about carrying the sword, an epic history of brilliant exploits, valour in trying times protecting homes and rights, etc.

Here are all the historic versions of O canada, both song and poem over the years, including a literal translation of the French version (but missing a line!)

It's over. The PMO issued a statement this afternoon that they wouldn't pursue it any further because of negative public opinion.

It’s too bad this can’t work with some of the other stupid things they do.

Lol!

What the fuck did he think we were going to say?

"Yes! By golly we love learning a new version every 10 years! It's like a fun happy Roledex of annoying alternate PC ways to fuck up a good song! Who could hate that?"
