How fitting that the above post by xerxes about the passing of Gino appears on page 29 of this thread.
A very sad passing for sure as I remember attending several games in the 90's and chanting his name whenever he was on the ice. He made such an impact on the team, the city and the NHL in general for being an inspiration to indigenous youth even well after his playing days ended.
I was at the first game he played in as a Canuck on November 21st 1990. I dug into one of my storage bins last night where I have all kinds of memorabilia, including game programs, and I found that particular one and I had also kept the handout from the game (2pg media type game notes) that had mention of him being a call-up from the AHL for that game due to injuries to other players and added to the roster after the program had already been printed.
RIP Gino and thank you for being you.
