but to pick apart a vehicle for petty things such as tire treads, wipers, defrosters, rust issues or a chip in the windshield, is taking it too far

Our author is an idiot, and lazy to boot if he thinks these things aren't important.

And his solution is to delay the inevitable with more paperwork,
a solution right up there with the dog ate my homework, so I need
more time for the test.

A Canadian inspection / plate regime would work well, with some provincial
adjustments for things like tires.

But we all know the provinces will never give up their provincial systems;

and the money that goes with it.

I second that. The guy needs to grow up a little bit. Sounds like a pissy teenager.

People just need to be smarter.

When we moved here from BC, I brought my vehicle with me of course. When it came time to swap all the registration and licensing over to Alberta, I traded the vehicle off and bought a new truck, let the dealer have all the fun with getting the old vehicle registered here....

I think this guy needs to grow up and cut down on his daily dose of "poor me" pills.

For one these inspections are meant to keep the roads safe and anyone who has had one done knows how easy they are to pass. Two, Albertans who have vehicles over 10 years old have under go an all most identical inspection. You can get one done at just about any garage for around $100 or less.

If he wants something to complain about why doesn't he write about how Albertan’s have to pay the PST on their vehicle which they bought in Alberta when they go to work in another province? If I take my truck to Ontario and want to use it for work I first have to pay the Ontario government over $2000 to do so. That's a hell of a lot more than a $100 inspection.

How's about when a drunk teenager breaks into your house, steals the car keys from your pants pocket while you sleep, takes your car and gets caught driving it?
Then he being a minor gets a slap on the wrist. You being the owner get your car impounded for a month because it was driven by a drunk, and must pay $1100 impound fees to get it back?
That's fucked! Never mind petty inspection laws.

We had a yearly inspection like that for cars older than 3 years in The Netherlands. Doesn't NS have an inspection like that yearly too?
I actually find it weird that we don't have a yearly inspection here, in the freaking mountains. The crap I see come off a mountain on a daily basis... It's ridiculous.

It certainly isn't a big deal in BC. I brought my car from the States, they checked it out and made me put metric stickers on the speedo, that was it. This guy was probably driving some wrechk.

A good number of the inspection items can be checked by the owner prior to and allow the owner to correct the deficiency before taking it to a shop.

Once upon a time, long, long ago BC did have a mandatory yearly inspection system in place. I can't remember if it was a prerequisite for your vehicle's insurance or not, but it was a yearly safety inspection. The only thing now in place is the yearly emission testing, the province no longer cares if your vehicle is safe to drive or not, only that it doesn't overly pollute the atmosphere.

True enough, Air Care is basically a Lower Fraser Valley undertaking, Chilliwack west.

I hope it doesn't go into place on the island. Eventually I'm going to be working on a 7.3 that puts out more emissions than a fucking freight train. I wanna be able to use that motor.

I can understand the Albertan government wants to keep its roads safe, but pushing this testing so quickly on those who relocate from another province within Canada, to me, is travesty

Sorry buddy. If any provincial Government wanted to make their roads safer they would be testing ALL the vehicles in the Province and not just ones from out of province.

This is just another freakin money grab that all the provinces have discovered.
