Soon after the drug’s release, senior Purdue officials, including members of the Sackler family, knew from physician feedback that OxyContin was highly addictive but chose to deliberately ignore and actively suppress this evidence for years. As a result, many teenagers were given this drug for minor procedures like dental surgery and became drug addicts afterwards. That’s as clear a case of criminal negligence as you’re going to see, but because they are filthy rich nobody will do time.
