More sabre rattling, good news. $1: The idea of resurrecting Poland's territorial defence units gained traction following Russia's annexation of Crimea and its support for rebels fighting in eastern Ukraine.
When Mr Macierewicz signed the document initiating the volunteer defence system in a Warsaw secondary school in April, he said the units would serve to defend against Russian aggression and to promote patriotism.
He said Poland was the only Nato member without such a force. Warsaw abandoned its Soviet-era territorial units in 2008.
Volunteers will undergo about 30 days' military training a year and the first three brigades are scheduled to be operational in eastern Poland by the start of next year, So help me out here, what paramilitary force does Canada have ?

"Paramilitary" usually means something outside of the traditional department of national defence, like "secret police" or some kind of specialized SWAT team reporting to a different department.
This sounds more like a Reserve force, of which Canada has ( or recently had) about 40,000 across all branches of service I believe.

Technically, Para-Military is like the US Res/NG's/ANG's and the USCG which is constant active Para-Military and under Dual Civilian/Military control.

Vamp018 Vamp018: Technically, Yeah, ok. I have never heard the Reserves being called anything close to 'Para military', or ' defending against aggression', or 'Promoting Patriotism'. That name usually gets reserved for things like the IRA. I know full well the BBC is full of left wing idiots who can't write their way out of a wet paper bag, but this is a new low, even for them.

With how stupid western Europe is behaving with the current Muslim invasion they're allowing to happen I'd wager odds that the Poles are arming-up as much to resist when the EU tries to force them to take in rapefugees as they are to ward away the Russians.

Those paras will come in handy to suppress dissent as the govt chips away at civil rights.

I say technically cause the Res can be called on Domestic under Civilian control or USCG National Incident Ctr. Good example is Hurricane Katrina and then the NO City Government and LA Gov then and there cluster fluck mess and point finger games.

35,000 against umpteen million Russian troops. Yeah that'll work. Like horse cavalry did against the panzers...

Sort of related good burn. My sister's a Bible thumper and posted that fake Photoshop f the clouds shaped like the 4 Horsemen on Facebook, with some crap about 'end times'. She married a guy born in Poland, so I commented back that I wasn't too worried. Horsemen didn't do to well against Stukas and Panzers, now they've got A10s and Abrams tanks. Your hubbie can explain. Me such asshole brother, eh?

Poland having to fight the Russians is not new, they are preparing for what they have had to do for centuries.

GreenTiger GreenTiger: Poland having to fight the Russians is not new, they are preparing for what they have had to do for centuries. Usually by causing it themselves.

Well the US National Guard is a curious creature but the Reserves are not under civilian or dual control, they are under the control of the US DOD and Secretary of Defense. They might be given tasks to aid the civil power (as with our reserves) but that is at the discretion of the Secretary.

andyt andyt: Those paras will come in handy to suppress dissent as the govt chips away at civil rights. This is a citizen's militia. The effect is actually quite the opposite. And the only people being repressed in Poland these days are the fucking leftists who want to oppress everyone else and the fucking Muslims who want to do the same thing. Let them go to Germany.
