And of course, you can guess what the blogosphere of the American right wing is saying about this...

LOL. Canadian Health Care not good enough for this guy??

More fuel for the anti-health care activists in the USA.

Most politicians and folks with money have surgeries in the US.. Remember the wrong diagnosis of cancer in NfLd? I wouldn't have surgery there either. And also the nurses of Nfld are not that happy these days.

I'm guessing that if it could be done elsewhere then Mr. Williams was not interested in getting on the waiting list for the procedure when he could just go to the US and get it done right away.

In any case, it is kind of delicious to see Canadian politicians opting out of Canadian health care.

What's ironic is that if we model our health care after Canada's we won't allow foreigners to come here for any treatments.

Hey, no one doubts that the US is the place to go if you got the money. But then no one doubts that Canada is the place to be if you don't.

That's what I think too, of course it could of been done elsewhere in Canada. He just didn't like the 8 month waiting list as I know I wouldn't. It always suprises me how these politicians always appear to have unique organs apart from the rest of lemmings, where the type of care the need "isn't available in Canada" Stronach was another one, flew to Cali for "specialized" care for her breasts that wasn't available here.

Here he is defending our health care system he wants nothing to do with.

Except for a few genuine ring-dings on the far right here in Alberta, I don't know anyone in Canada (or in any other developed nation) who's clamouring to adopt the American health care system. It'd be such an unconscionable and anti-moral thing to do that anyone who would seriously propose it would have to be seen as some sort of sociopath or well-paid insurance industry operative.

Oh well, plenty of Americans come to Canada for meds. How much do we hear about that? As long as they can piss on the Canadian system, its ok, but when they profit, you won't hear it.

I personally think the Canadian system is far from perfect, but the US one is even worse. If you have money, ANY country that can help you immediately is good enough. I bet he would have gone to Germany or Isreal too.

As far as I know if you need treatment in Canada you can get it either by being Canadian or paying for it. I dont remember any Canadian hospital/doctor/clinic turning away a non-insured paying customer.

The guy donates his paycheque to charity and chooses to spend his own money on care in the US instead of burdening the Canadian system...the guy is a fuckin Canadian hero.

Anyways I'm not his spin doctor but that is how I'd spin it.

Considering one of the most prestigious heart research centres in North America is in Ottawa, I think Danny is going to have some ‘splainin’ to do.

If our health care system is so awful then why is it that your leaders would rather come here for their care?

Also, I don't think anyone of any note has ever proposed that any country should adopt our health care model. It's just the socialist Europeans and Canadians who seem utterly fascinated with the American health care system, not the vice versa.

Really, it seems to me the European and Canadian obsession with wanting the USA to adopt your collective style of health care is some sort of childish desire to obtain validation from us as if we're your parents. Why you people are so obsessed with how I go about going to the doctor when you have so many more important issues in your own country that need to be addressed just amazes me.
