The real headline is a little more accurate than the one that was posted and clarifies the inaccurate claim that: Canadians upset by Epoch Times.

Here's the real one:

Quote:
Some Canadians who received unsolicited copy of Epoch Times upset by claim that China was behind virus

Now back to the topic.

I'm pretty sure that most people who complained about this papers content don't know who publishes the paper and wouldn't know it unless they looked it up or had someone slap them in the face with the publishers names.

Because, if they did look it up they'd realise that it's one Chinese organisation calling out the Red Chinese gov't who has repressed them for decades.

I received the paper and found it to be neither racist nor inflammatory especially in view of the Chinese gov'ts recent actions in whitewashing their part in this pandemic. And as far as I'm concerned every criticism of the President for life Xi and the repressive inept gov't he runs should be front page news. So if it takes a bunch of disgruntled Chinese to bring these accusations and criticisms to lite then so be it because it's like the old adage says "you reap what you sow".

Who is Falun Gong supposed to be racist against? The Chinese? They are Chinese!

Sounds like all the CBC could find to support their headline claim of "racism" is somebody named Armstrong is crying racist against a Chinese spiritual movement which he or she seems to think is being racist against Chinese.

The only thing that bugs me about the Epoch Times is there's a paygate at their website.

That and their irritating YouTube ads.

I like Falun Gong's YouTube channel about what's happening in China though.

Here's their most recent one they sent me:

So the CBC is falling in line with Communist China's attacks on Falun Gong, are they?

What? Did Xi offer the CBC news head a Falun Gong kidney or something?

I actually got one of these in my mailbox. I thought it was produced by some rightist fringe group.

I just threw it in the recycling. The writing wasn't very good, and even if you believe the message (which I don't), that kept me from taking it seriously.

Are you implying that I changed the headline, or that CBC did?

Because the story is now running with the headline: Some Canadians see claims in Epoch Times about origin of virus as 'racist and inflammatory'

I'm not claiming anything but, since someone failed to use the term "SOME" in the headline there's a connotation that there was outrage from an overwhelming majority of Canadians who received the epoch times free paper. A fact which is unverifiable by the CBC and given the people I've talked to couldn't be farther from the truth.

Epoch Times runs a little on the weird side but the mere fact that they stand up to and piss off that rotten fucking douchebag bastard Xi makes me like them! [B-o]

Probably why they changed the headline.

I do get linked to them from right wing archive sites but I don't get the feeling they have a wing. They're more like the Daily Mail. They can appeal to the right because they're not sensitive to the left's censors. They'll give you information the left won't like the Daily Mail does. The left doesn't like that.

Probably why they changed the headline.

Exactly.

But what I found even more intriguing was their misuse of the term "racist". I wonder if anyone at the CBC bothered to look into who publishes the Epoch Times? Or, did they know and then choose to disregard that fact so they could put the term "racist" to use?

Scape might be onto something.

Here's one from the Toronto Sun's Anthony Fury on the CBC's claim of Epoch Times racism:

Chinese Canadian dissidents are under attack, and the CBC has joined the pile-on

Quote:
Some of the first voices to sound the alarm about the coronavirus coming to Canada were people of Chinese descent living in Markham, a northern GTA city with a significant ethnic Chinese population.

They follow the news in China more closely than the rest of us and so were more aware of what was happening in Hubei province through early January. When they looked around and saw that many of their neighbours had headed to China for the lunar new year, and even to Wuhan, they were doubly concerned.

Parents in Markham were so worried that they circulated a petition asking the York Region district school board to require students returning from Wuhan to quarantine at home for 14 days.

Looking back, it all seems rather quaint. Of course that’s what the students should have done then and it’s what everybody returning from another country is doing now.

Yet that didn’t stop others from twisting their words and claiming the many signatories to the petition, mostly Chinese names, were somehow motivated by racism.

“Situations such as these can regrettably give rise to discrimination based on perceptions, stereotypes and hate,” wrote Juanita Nathan, trustee chair of the York Region district school board, and Louise Sirisko, director of education, in an open letter.

Now, a similar scenario is playing out, where those of Chinese heritage are being maligned for daring to warn their fellow Canadians about looming danger.

“’Racist and inflammatory’: Canadians upset by Epoch Times claim China behind virus, made it as a bioweapon” is the headline CBC Twitter accounts used on Wednesday to promote their mess of a story that caused a stir online and was in turn denounced by its subject matter.

“The Epoch Times, a newspaper that has polarized people over its content, is coming under fire for advancing a conspiracy theory about the origin of the coronavirus — and putting it straight into people’s mailboxes unsolicited,” the opening line reads.

Those unfamiliar with the publication would be forgiven for thinking, based on this description, that it is some sort of white nationalist publication peddling anti-Asian sentiment. It’s not. The Epoch Times is run by Chinese immigrants.

While some Chinese language media in Canada actually report to the Chinese Communist government, such as the Xinhua News Agency, the Epoch Times does not. It’s run by Chinese dissidents, some of whom have previously been arrested or imprisoned for their activism, typically related to the Falun Gong movement.

That the paper has an editorial position that is opposed to the Chinese Communist party leadership in Beijing is undeniable, but to malign it as racist and conspiracy-theorist is just ignorance of the facts.

But despite the sensationalist headline, the story — a version of which was made into a segment on CBC’s flagship news show The National — only cites two people who claim to find it offensive.

Lisa Armstrong from Kelowna complained about getting it delivered to her home for free. “It really feels racist and inflammatory,” Armstrong said. “And right now, we’re all scared. We’re all vulnerable. We don’t know what’s going to happen next. Then somebody that starts playing on those fears, (it’s) a very dangerous thing to do at this time.”

The other is a letter carrier who declines to be named but took issue with delivering the newspaper.

“They’re saying the coronavirus is part of a biowarfare agenda by the Chinese people. That’s over the line for me,” he said. “I saw the headlines on the thing, and my heart sank because I thought, the world right now is full of fear and confusion, and the last thing that people need is … this kind of hatred.”

Epoch Times publisher Cindy Gu has written a detailed response to the article and what she explains are its “simple factual errors” and has included her original correspondence with CBC reporters prior to the story going live.

“The headline focuses on a small part of our eight-page special edition, a commentary article that discusses the history of top CCP officials talking about developing bioweapons,” Gu writes. “But this opinion article did not state that the Wuhan lab was developing bioweapons, contrary to the claim in the headline.”

Gu adds that the “CBC purposefully omitted that our media organization was founded by Chinese immigrants, which was stated in the email to the reporter.”

There are three credited authors behind this story and one of them, Katie Nicholson, is described as CBC’s “COVID-19 fact-checker”. So much for that.

“We began to report on the Wuhan virus on Dec. 31 and reported on the coverup of the real numbers in early February,” Gu writes. “If more people had been reading the Epoch Times, our country could have been prepared. In our opinion, there is not enough truthful reporting about China and the nature of its ruling communist regime.”

What’s even worse is it looks like when Chinese Canadians do step forward to report on the regime in Beijing with anything other than praise, they get attacked.
