Got to be the dumbest a thing a person can do while running for President during record unemployement and economic stagnation.

Maybe this is an admission that he doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell of becomming the 45th President of the US.

Either that or he's run out of closet space. 8O

Why? He's rich, he can afford it. At least that way the money circulates in the economy. It would be better if he was paying some of that money in taxes, but since he's not, it's as good or bad as anything else. Is he supposed to pretend to be poor?

It's a dumbass move environmentally, but I doubt that's something he thinks about.

He's stimulating the economy... what's the problem?

Besides, it's a good political move too as the people he'll hire might actually vote for him. Now, if he can build a few million of these across the country, he'll be a shoe-in at the next election.

Needless to say the optics of this is rather poor. Maybe he should have waited until after the campaign to do this.

Eh more power to him. It's his property, and he's applied for the proper permits.

I don't care - after all he's using his own money, not taxpayer's, so let him do what he wants. Besides, he's applied for the proper permits and will be spreading his wealth around, so it's not that big a deal IMO.

Frankly, I don't blame him, a two bedroom house is considered inadequate for most families these days. Given the size of his family, he needs more bedrooms, although I don't know if he really needs 11000 sq. feet.

The only problem with it is that it will reflect poorly on his presidential bid.

It does reflect poorly, but if he is elected, he'll be very very glad he invested in the new house. I'm guessing it would be his August vacation residence, like Bush's ranch in Texas. If you'll be living with your family, security detail, office staff, and chefs (the President cooking for himself on a regular basis is seen as a security threat), you'll need all of 11000 sq. feet.

I think I'll forgive him. He's rich and the rich like houses, and 3,000 square feet is not really their standard. There's a problem with the better off being unaware of life at the bottom but that is a different topic. If he's competent he'll keep the problems at the bottom in mind. It's a matter of competence.

Sure it is.

Romney's $12 million dollar stimulus to the California construction industry will create more jobs than the trillions that Obama and Bush burned on so-called stimulus that has clearly had no impact on jobs.

Not at all. Seems that the size of the house Romney is proposing to build is actually quite typical for La Jolla (Pronounced 'La Hoy-ya')...
