Meanwhile, Saputo said he is opposed to a suggestion by former prime minister Brian Mulroney that Canada eliminate the supply and demand system for milk, eggs and poultry.

...

Mulroney reportedly said abolishing the system would benefit consumers, although he added at the same time that Ottawa would have to be ready to offer farmers generous compensation in return.

Saputo disagrees with Mulroneys core suggestion.

He wants to abandon the whole system, Saputo said after the companys annual meeting in Laval, Que.

I dont think that should happen...Im not against the Canadian system. It works for Canada.

Just sayin'. ;)

Here's where they always lose me:

Quote:
Saputo said he is instead preparing to “fight a good fight” for the businesses’ cheese sector because it is an area where “we know how to make more effectively and more efficiently than our competitors.”

I hear government people and their corporatist allies all the time telling me how competitive and outright superior they are with the Canadian cheese.

But my taste buds tell me the American block cheese kicks ass against the Canadian stuff, and my wallet tells me it's cheaper. Given the choice and if I had easy access to it I would buy the crap out of the American stuff.

So if these guys are lying about that what else are they lying about?

European cheese is cheap but trade restrictions keep Canuckletardian cheese artificially expensive.

Quite true.

But when government price and supply controls are lifted the market increases purchases even though existing per capita consumption had been in decline.

The removal of controls reduces prices and makes dairy products more accessible to lower income people and the result is an increased dairy market.

Oh yes, truest statement of the week. Fixed raclette the other night and went to our local cheese shop. Picked up Oka raclette. All I can say is R=UP R=UP

So-called 'American cheese' is not cheese, it's plastic masquerading as cheese.

You pseudo, self-judged connoisseurs of the fromage don't have a clue what you're talking about. My taste buds are just fine and as far as American block Cheddar from Washington state goes. [drool]

Cheap too.

Armstrong should be sued for false advertisement for even calling what they put out cheese.

If you were disagreeing with him on that, I hate to say, but I quite agree with Chuck.

The Food Guide was developed not by doctors, nor even one nutritionist. It was developed with representatives of the products that the food guide suggests. Farmers, lobbiests, industry reps.

Quote:
For the purpose of this policy, stakeholders are defined as:

groups
organizations
industry
advocates

Transparency of stakeholder communications for healthy eating initiatives

Not one mention of 'doctors' or 'nutritionists'. How can you design a guide to healthy eating and not consult the people who study healthy eating?
