No, I think that was much more a lack of comprehension or some form of misinterpretation on your part. You are a zealot, but not for the reasons you think I said you are. In fact, I repeated the reasons in the above quote.
The only person fitting the zealot persona is the guy you look at in the mirror. You keep calling people a zealot because they don't subscribe to your narrow view of the universe.
We will add zealot to the list of things you don't comprehend properly.

I never did say that religion and science are the same thing, only that they share similarities. Both seek the same goal, that is, to understand the universe. One is useful in some ways, the other is useful in other ways. You can't build a neural network with religion, but you also can't always provide relief and guidance to people with science. Actually, neither of those are exactly true, but I don't expect you'll understand why, because you're too busy trying to poke holes in something that already has a thousand superhighways built through it.
Yes you attemtped to do just that. Furthermore you freaked out and called me an angry Atheist because i dared to point out that most religion doesn't in fact seek to explain nature other then "our god did it". You then bitched that I was "depending to much on Xtian huckster clergy" because I used their religion as evidence that religion serves as a manual for "salvation" not as a tool of education that science is.
You then somehow claimed that any religion acting in the manner I said was wrong and therefore I shouldn't make my determinations based on the evidence at hand. You claimed this by very argrogantly claiming that your religion was the correct one and that every other religion not acting as you believe they should was wrong.
You failed to grasp the nuances of the large majority of established religion and don't understand in the least about the scientific method and the reasons why science works as it does.
Your belief that your religion is about understanding the universe is bogus because you have already come to a conclusion that its all your god and thats not science nor is it the purpose of science. I tried to explain to you the difference between religion and spirituality but you kept going back to your fallback position that all religion except your was wrong and your religion shared the same education goal as science. I showed you your error quite plainly.
Quote:
I'm implying that if I'm thinking about a rabbit, and other people are thinking about a rabbit, we're probably all thinking about a cute fuzzy animal that hops around on four feet and has big ears. Just replace the rabbit with god, and however you want to describe god.
No what you are saying is that even though everybody is thinking of a different animal they should all still picture the same animal you are picturing. Some religions have many gods and some have no gods while some have one. You just keep saying that because they are using the term god then they must be thinking of the same thing you are. You are wrong.
Quote:
They were all wrong, because they use the same dumb illogic of the people who say things like "guns don't kill people, people kill people." It's not that guns do kill people or that people don't kill people, it's that people with guns loaded with bullets kill people.
Religion can't do anything bad if nobody abuses it.
Your religion is right and all the others are wrong. Gotcha.
Quote:
Well, you didn't. I can't apologise for that. The majority do not speak for all, nor do they account for all.
Apparently you do though. Your and only your definition of religion is correct and what you think of as your god is the exact same thing everybody else thinks about when they think about theirs.
For a great many people people religion
is not about understanding how the universe works but what rules they must follow to assure that their soul isn't damned for eternity.
Of course they are wrong and you are right. Where have I heard that before.
Quote:
It's more like I'm asking you to examine your own beliefs and how they're really not that much better than the people you're criticising. Just because you choose to believe that no gods exist doesn't mean you are not holding some ridiculous and childish beliefs, it's just that yours don't happen to include the same things as those of other people's Belief Systems.
1) Don't confuse Atheism with science.
2) You are the person who seems to be criticizing all the other religions as wrong and hucksters.
3) You are not trying to get me to examine my beliefs
but to accept yours. You keep trying to say that religion has the same purpose as science and I keep explaining in detail why you are wrong, made doubly so because you simply discount any religion that doesn't fit you preconceived ideas.
4) Add your own beliefs to the list of childish and ridiculous beliefs also.
Quote:
Based on this statement alone, I can tell you have done far less research than I have.
I can tell you quite easily that you haven't. You have obviously dismissed just about every large religion instead holding up your own new age style faith as the yardstick to measure by. You obviously don't understand what those other religions are about and other then a passing knowledge that "science finds out how things work" you don't understand any of the underlying principles behind it.
You also keep confusing spirituality with religion.
Quote:
I never said that only I could define them. I was trying to suggest that there are other possibilties, but the people I was trying to tell this to are too jaded and cynical to understand.
Yet at every turn you do just that. That is entirely why you dismiss my argument whereby I use any religion but yours as a comparisson against science.
At best you can only say that your religion is more like science then the other religions and less concerned with instructions on how to live your life.
You cannot make the broad claim that religion (impling the bulk of religions) shares the same purpose with science because I have explained to you why that is wrong. The very fact that you have already determined the "cause" of everything is
the antithesis of science.
Trying to find out how things work becomes irrelevant except in the physcial sense. Its no different then my learnign how to build a clock-radio from scratch, learn all the underlying principles of the electronics and yet still say its "magic" because I believe that magic is how the universe works.
Quote:
What is my dogmatic view, and in what way are you absent of one?
How about your continued believe that only your view of science and religion are acceptable.
My view of religion is based on the what the people who follow it tell me it is (and their actions) and my view of science is based on the underlying principles humanity has established over it.
Quote:
I was trying to explain my ideas, not force them down anyone's throat. In order to do that, I probably would have had to use some form of threat or violence.
Then by your own definition I don't qualify anymore then you do.
Quote:
You didn't say you don't believe in gods, you said you believe in no gods, not implying a lack of belief, but rather implying a firm belief in a lack of gods. If you didn't believe, there would be no need to explain this to you six times over.
Word games and semantics. The sentences are interchangable. You either understand that or you don't understand english comprehension.
You keep attempting to mask your lack of understanding about the subject matter by throwing out this little red herring.
