........and you can't ground your kids either. No wonder kids figure they can get away with murder.

I was spanked as a child (not hard, just a light swipe), and I support a parent's to use corporal punishment.

As with most laws its not desinged for the 99% of reasonable people but designed to protect the few children subjected to the 1% of parents who believe that disciple means fearful punishment.

This legislation is wrong and ultimately doomed to fail. It can't hope to be upheld since prosecution requires evidence and the only evidence would seem to be the testimony of children.

While we understand the need to prevent child abuse we can't circumvent loving parents honestly raising their children.

Sometimes a smack is the correct punishment. This legislation is designed to catch those beating their children in the name of discipline but as with all type 2 error bias systems it will catch more false negatives and thast unacceptable.

Good points DerbyX, and I also don't think this is a partisan Left/Right issue. There is a New Democrat against this bill, and a Tory for it...its not a "big government" liberal thing.

Anyways, my mom didn't "abuse" me, and used a spank as corrective punishment when I wasn't behaving.

I do not see my mom as a "criminal", our laws are sufficient for real child abuse issues.

Thanks. Few of us were abused by our parents. The problem with legislation with this is that to many innocents get caught. Witness the moronic response of child welfare taking children away based on a psychic vision.

My only concern is the reality of certain psychology that sees hardfast acceptance even brutal represive conditions. Believe me when I say that people can be beaten tothe point where they believe that such treatment truly equates love and will vigorously defend their tormentor.

This legislation is designed to root them out. It just won't work though.

BTW, congrats on the recent personal achievements and breakthroughs. All the best on those fronts.

I think what's most troubling is the way that this bill is being put forth. This senator simply has no respect for the democratic process and plans on forcing her will upon the people of Canada.
That's not why we elect senators.. oops!
