That is one of the most friggin' disturbing articles I have read. My heart goes out to the family of the victim. There is no friggin way I could cope with losing someone that way. I'd go ballistic on the accused. How horrible and sad and tragic and preventable and...yet not entirely shocking in our lovely little world today.
Many of you have made excellent points in this thread, too many to quote and I always mess it up when I try to put multiple quotes in one reply so...
I think we can all agree that there is no easy solution to this situation. Youth crime is getting out of hand and what is worse is the brutality and level of seriousness of the crimes. Blaming parents is easy but they aren't tethered to their kids 24/7 so how can they be sure what they are up to? Society as a whole is to blame. We've become desensitized and human life is no longer held in a high regard. It's every man/woman for him/her self these days. Look what progress and innovaton has done to us.
Bad homes do not always breed bad kids. I've known people from "good" homes who went to shit and I've known people who crawled out of the shit they were born into and rose above it.
Certainly there will be exceptions at either end of the spectrum. I agree completely that 'society is flushing itself down the toilet'. And only 'we' can stop it. One person at a time. One family at a time. One neighborhood at a time. One community at a time. One city at a time. One society at a time... And there is no better time to start than right now!
