I thought this story was from the Onion. I think this guy might be in line for a Darwin Award.

Lesson number one. ALWAYS check your own equipment! Over 1000 parachute descents, both static line and freefall, and never a problem.

*refrains from stating the obvious*...

I'm very sorry for his family and friends...

He's had 200 successful jumps. This happens to able bodied people too. No Darwin award here. At least he died doing what he loved. Better than being hit by a bus. (Well except maybe if you're having sex with Amy Adams in the middle of the road.)

It happens to people who don't check their own equipment and by being complacent.

A little hard for the fellow to check his own kit what with being a quadraplegic and all.

2Cdo, how many times in all your jumps have you encountered potentially deadly errors with your kit?

I'm guessing that if one day you don't check, that's the day you'll encounter a potentially deadly error with your kit.

Is it wrong that I picture the whacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man from the Simpsons?

I'll bet that doesn't stop you from checking though right. Check and double check. There are no second chances when when falling towards the earth at 120mph.

Seems to me that even going skydiving (a somewhat risky hobby to begin with), without the ability to use ones arms and legs is just asking for trouble.
