Its about time the UN became accountable for its negligence, maybe then it will think twice before consistantly half assing missions.

I'm all for the UN being accountable but this won't bother them because their world leaders in bullshit and corruption.
The problem is that the nations who donate troops to UN missions retain ultimate comand of those units, so they are ultimately to blame when things go wrong. Even if this is partially succesfull, it's going to make nations think twice about donating troops for UN missions and/or doing anything that could possibly go wrong.

I really hate what the UN has become and this could kill the enthusiasm of nations who might want to participate.

The Mothers of Srebrenica simply want their day in court and rightfully so. Somebody needs to take responsibilty for what happened there. At the least the Dutch have the balls to acknowledge the case and appear for the trial.

Indeed, my sympathies go out to the victims but why not sue the enemy who perpetrated the crime instead of the 3rd party?

Regardless of how this goes down, will the Dutch ever volunteer for another UN mission?
When are the survivors of Rwanda going to sue the UN and Canada for not stopping the genocide or not saving them?

Ratko Mladić and Radovan Karadžić are still on the run.

Besides, The Mothers of Srebrenica sue UN and Dutch for creating "safe-zone" that turned into a trap, thus failing in what they were bound to do.
The leaders of Republika Srpska and VRS are wanted by International Court of Justice, so there is no need/possibility to sue them.

It may happen, and they may have a case. I wouldn't mind seeing them win either. Canada really screwed the pooch in Rwanda there is no denying that.

So was our general under Canadian command or was he under UN command?
As a Canadian officer and citizen, ultimately he's Canada's but where and when does the chain of command end? Are we going to hear the senator tell an international tribunal; "I was only following orders?"
