Most people, including my maternal grandfather, who develop ALS succumb to it in a few years.

My brother tells me that he would spit-shine this man's shoes and worship him like he were Jesus Christ

I watched some documentary and they made reference to the fan mail this guy gets, it make me tear up

This guy is amazing.

I'm not sure I would either but it takes an incredible amount of guts to live like that and keep on going and given the Hollywood types and and of our elected representatives (from this side of the border) ie, Spitzer, Wiener, ect to see somebody who not only has the guts to keep living and to be productive is an inspiration.

To give you an idea about his intelligence he was was in a doctoral program where he and a group of physicists were given a list of 10 very complex questions to answer and they were given six months to answer them. They were working on them for months an could only answer 7. Steven Hawking didn't even bother looking a them until after dinner the night before they were do. He answered 8 of them before he fell asleep.

He has the guts to wake up in the morning and proceed given what he has going against him. I can't even conjure up the amount of guts that that takes. He should get the Presidential Medal of Freedom in addition to anything else.

In my opinion, the human race as a whole should stand as one in awe of this man. I rue the day he dies.

I don't think anyone would ;) But if that's just how it was, I bet most of us would still want to live.

I'm glad he did. After decades of only being able to twitch a finger, and now only being able to twich a cheek - he's given us so much.

Touchscreens wouldn't work without the understanding Proffessor Hawkings gave us about Black Holes.
