Seriously... WTF?

Nothing to see there really. Merely the sainted free market in action, working properly as the masters of the universe want it to. God bless Sacred Capitalism et vive les aristocratie!

Same thing here in Alberta, when Kenney went from a regulated to unregulated market. Not nearly as bad, but since they also aren't subsidizing power and gas bills, my utilities have more than doubled over last year.

Spot pricing though is pure evil.

Dallas resident DeAndre Upshaw said it was "very shocking" when he opened his latest electricity bill.

"While I'm trying to get gas and groceries and make sure that my pipes don't explode, the last thing I'm thinking about is a $7,000 bill from my utility company," Upshaw told CNN's Fredricka Whitfield via Skype Saturday.

As Texas struggles to recover from a deep freeze that has killed dozens, some customers in Texas like Upshaw are facing unprecedented price hikes in their energy bills as a result of the recent snow storm. Texas officials say they are investigating.

I thought at first that this $7K bill must be an error in reporting.

A quick search brought up this article as well as others.
$1:
“My savings is gone,” said Scott Willoughby, a 63-year-old Army veteran who lives on Social Security payments in a Dallas suburb. He said he had nearly emptied his savings account so that he would be able to pay the $16,752 electric bill charged to his credit card — 70 times what he usually pays for all of his utilities combined. “There’s nothing I can do about it, but it’s broken me.”

Ain't neoliberalism great?

Thanks a lot, Milton Friedman and Friedrich Hayek!

With Texas, the biggest truck market in the country, currently in the middle of a nasty winter storm and subsequent widespread power outages, we've been wondering if anyone has put the generator capabilities of the 2021 Ford F-150 PowerBoost hybrid to the test. The answer is, unsurprisingly, yes. A few users at F150Gen14.com shared photos and experiences using the generator function, and they're all rather glowing.

Everyone owning a truck in texas made me consider something else.

How the fuck are they all incapable of driving in snow? My Dad drove a minivan with 4wd on all seasons in snow for two seasons without issue. All these big bad truck drivers can't deal with a couple inches of snow in their gigantic trucks?

Guess what they say about the average pickup driver is true.

Mud tires on snow are basically skates.

My truck, with snow tires, is like a cat on velcro.

They don't need trucks either, but mud tires are cooler. From what I can tell, they have the telltale sidewall knobs of mudders, as they slide down the street.

'Rolling Coal' in a Smart car just doesn't send the right message. ;)
