Thousands of years of evolution.

It's no surprise they get fat so fast from rice and pasta.

The sad thing about this whole problem is that it can simply be traced to the extremely high cost of healthy foods. When it costs 5 or 6 times more to purchase milk than sugary soft drinks, it makes it detrimental for parents to feed their kids healthy meals. The problem is not just in the North it is everywhere.

Former mines are part of the answer. Turn them into giant greenhouses. It won't be as cheap as the south, but it'll be a damn sight cheaper.
