It's not just that the left/right paradigm is obsolete as much as it was irrelevant from the start because it's so foolishly simplistic. It's something that seeped out from some university political science department and infected the entire world with false boundaries. No one, except for the ideologue puritans and party hacks that no one normal can tolerate, fits perfectly into one definition. Even the GOP of previous less complicated eras understood this, like when Reagan stared down the loons by saying that someone who agreed with him 80% of the time and disagreed 20% of the time wasn't a mortal enemy but a good friend and ally.

The worst thing about "left-right" is that, due to the "if it bleeds it leads" mentality of modern media, it gives almost all the attention to the extremist freaks and denies the normals a fair chance at the microphone. As the immortal Beck once said, what about those of us who swing both ways? Y'know, the acdc's? Image

I still tend to think this way:

Free <---------- Less Free ---------> Not Free

Once you look at it that way then you find all sorts of right/left regimes clustered over on the right side of that spectrum with damned few on the left. :|

BartSimpson BartSimpson:
I've made the observation in the past that >some< anarchists are actually right wing extremists because they prize individual rights above all else and because they believe in the least amount of government possible...if any.

those "anarchists" are considered right-wing because the lick corporate boot. their only issue with cops is that they aren't a private organisation.

they go on and on about a document that the government abides by for their rights, but run into the arms of the capitalist behemoths that have no obligation to follow any such fantasies.

that's why they're considered right-wing. not because of "free speech".

I'll change that a bit...

Thinks they are Free <-------------------> Knows they are Not Free

Dreamers on the left, realists on the right.

Members of violent white supremacist website exposed in massive data dump

Image

Private data for Iron March, a notorious website for violent white supremacists, has been published online in a stunning leak that exposes a trove of detailed information on as many as 1,000 or more members. The 1GB SQL database appears to contain the entirety of the site's information, including user names, private messages, public posts, registered email addresses, and IP addresses.

The leak was posted on the Internet Archive on Wednesday by an anonymous individual using the handle antifa-data. A list of domains used in email registrations shows two from US universities. Private messages show some members discussing life in the US Marines, Navy, Army, and military reserves.

"Be careful if you get deployed with those fucking sand [deleted] and jews," a user claiming to be in the Navy tells another member who says he's in the Marines and is about to be deployed. (The racist term he used has been deleted.) "They are all a bunch of slippery pieces of shit that wash their faces in rain puddles in dirt on the ground. We are too good to be interacting with those people, maybe trump will at least relax the ROE's [rules of engagement] so those pieces of shit can be blasted back to allah, jews and all."

Donald Trump Jr. went to UCLA ready to take on 'triggered' liberals. Instead, he was heckled by the far right

Image

Donald Trump Jr. and Trump campaign senior adviser Kimberly Guilfoyle came prepared with snappy rejoinders for liberal protesters who might taunt them on Sunday at the University of California at Los Angeles, where they promoted Trump Jr.’s new book, “Triggered: How the Left Thrives on Hate and Wants to Silence Us.”

But when unruly heckling drowned out the couple’s answers, leading the pair to walk offstage, it wasn’t leftists who cut the event short. Instead, the rebukes came from a crowd of young people who rank among the most ardent and extreme supporters of President Donald Trump.

As first reported by the Guardian, a number of conservatives — some in telltale “Make America Great Again” caps and pro-Trump attire — began to shout at the president’s son and political adviser 20 minutes into an event moderated by Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, after learning a question-and-answer session had been cancelled.

Video from the event showed a chant that started out as “U-S-A! U-S-A!” turning quickly into angry cries of “Q-and-A! Q-and-A!” Minutes later, Trump Jr. and Guilfoyle stormed off the stage.

The chaotic scene contradicted Trump Jr.’s central thesis that liberals have grown so intolerant of dissenting voices, conservative politicians can no longer engage in civil discourse. It also exposed an increasingly hostile fissure between conservative student groups like Turning Point USA and a hard-right faction of young Trump devotees who have flocked to self-professed “American Nationalist” Nicholas Fuentes and his “America First” movement.

Project Nightingale: Google accesses trove of US patient data

Google has gained access to a huge trove of US patient data - without the need to notify those patients - thanks to a deal with a major health firm.

The scheme, dubbed Project Nightingale, was agreed with Ascension, which hopes to develop artificial intelligence tools for doctors.

Google can access health records, names and addresses without telling patients, according to the Wall Street Journal, which first reported the news.

Google said it was "standard practice".

Among the data the tech giant reportedly has access to under the deal are lab results, diagnoses, records of hospitalisation and dates of birth.

Neither doctors nor patients need to be told that Google can see this information.

The Wall Street Journal reports that data access began last year and was broadened over the summer.

In a blog, Google said its work with Ascension would adhere to industry-wide regulations, such as the US Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

"To be clear... patient data cannot and will not be combined with any Google consumer data," the firm added.

Ascension, which runs 2,600 hospitals, said the deal would help it to "optimise" patient care and would include the development of artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support doctors.

The company also said it would begin using Google's cloud data storage service and business applications known as G Suite.
Privacy concerns

However, Project Nightingale has already attracted criticism from those who argue that it takes away patients' control of their own data.

"There's a massive issue that these public-private partnerships are all done under private contracts, so it's quite difficult to get some transparency," said Prof Jane Kaye at the University of Oxford.

"Google is saying they don't link it to their other data but what they're doing all the time is refining their algorithms, refining what they do and giving them[selves] market advantage."
