Means nothing because he's in charge of a throng of hardcore Quebec leftists, the kind of radicals that probably won't hesitate to stick the knife in him if he vacillates too much on the theories and policies he's obligated to support as leader of the federal Dippers. Quebec being what it is, I'm certain that it's fairly accurate to say that a conservative from Quebec is probably further to the left than is a Dipper from Alberta.

He was Environment Minister. Doesn't say jack about his economics, just his world view.

And personal freedom is an Libertarian/Authoritarian thing. So, C-51 isn't truly left or right biased to me.
