Now if Alberta and Saskatchewan could just convince the new PM that pipelines are better than the inevitable rail method for shipping crude then we might see a real infrastructure project.

Good luck even if they do convince him. Northern Gateway was dead under Harper's watch. BC has come out against Transmountain, and the east pipeline is getting strong resistance from Quebec and Ontario. Did you blame Harper for not being able to push Northern Gateway thru?
Also, these are private projects. What does that have to do with spending govt money on stimulus?
No I didn't same as I'm not going to blame Trudeau for not getting them pushed through but, there are other directions for our oil to flow which don't involve tree huggers, idiots and Indians. I'm fully expecting that when the new President of the US is inaugurated Warren Buffet's opposition to pipelines will be quietly disregarded and we'll see a change in policy towards our oil.
But, until that happens we'll have to entertain ourselves with handouts from the Federal Gov't unless we go broke first, because like it or not we're now a resource based economy who are dependant on the whims of the global economy. So, Mr. Trudeau trying to sell Canada as a great place to invest due to our diversity and resourcefulness isn't likely to gather much steam since what the rest of the world really wants is our resources at dirt cheap prices, not our rhetoric.
But I will give him an "A" for effort because at least he's trying to sell something. To bad it makes a state room on the Titanic look like a deal.
