It seems to me I heard of similar things happening in Canada. Not someone getting hit by a car, but someone lying dead on a sidewalk and no one noticing. Not quite the same, but close enough to raise some eyebrows.

How about I give you a story...

It happened right here in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada.

A grandfather and his grand-daughter we're in a parking lot. Suddenly, the grand-daughter (around 6 years old) darts out into traffic. The grandfather runs after, and suddenly suffers cardiac arrest.

He collapses on the street. The girl is fine.

People drive around him as he struggles for life in great pain. No one stops to help.

Eventually two very old woman find the child and help the man.

He lived, thankfully.

But people are disgusting everywhere you go.

There you go.

It's a bad deal. Question is do people know that to do in this situation? If one of the pedestrians had a cell phone they should have called 911. As to helping the man that is a differnt matter. One of the drivers shoudl have parked in the same land as the injured man or blocked both lanes. The pedestrians should not be expected to go into the traffic lanes while there is still traffic. Always keep yourself safe in an emergency.

If you help him, in the USA you could be sued, so knowbody wants to give aid or be involved.

It's worse now, because if you're an illegal immigrant and you call, the police can question your status, so illegals won't bother to call.

Connecticut has a good samaritan law, besides that you can't be sued for at least phoning 911.

Really.

In Texas about 6 years ago someone was breaking into a store and a fella called the police.

They guy was cought red handed, but later the charges were dropped and the guy sued the 911 caller and won.

Maybe places have good samaritan laws on the books, but that does not shield you from being sued, it's up to the judge to decide if you acted in good faith or not.

16 years living in the United States and I saw some freak'in stupid shit that didn't make any sense.

On what grounds?

This is one of those cases where you should really expect to hear...

Please provide a link.

It was 6 years ago I said, I tried to find a news link already but couldn't.

But I found this....

A colleague forwarding this story said:

In Germany you are required by law to stop and help to the best of your abilities. In the US apparently you don’t and now after reading this, I’d definitely think twice or three times before I even consider about helping anybody.

And we wonder why people in the U.S. hesitate to stop and give help to others?

Just Google "Good Samaritan Sued"
http://www.google.com/search?q=Good+Sam ... tartPage=1

or Google "911 caller sued"
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&neww ... aller+sued

There was many calls to 911 I think about five until the police arrived.

You're doing the same thing he was.

No I did not, I am just pointing out that he was wrong about the American comment, this is something that can happen anywhere.

I did not say typical Dominicans!

I can see the woman in the car suing... but I can't see a guy suing - and winning - someone who called 911.

Oh come on Lily, we are talking about Texas.

Don't you remember; "Texas Man Left to Bleed to Death in Windshield"

A Texas nurse's aid faces murder charges after hitting a man as she drove home and then letting him bleed to death in her garage over two to three days while he was trapped in her car's windshield...

ONLY IN TEXAS!!!!

That makes a diffence; they did the right thing. As for not helping the man somaritans should always put persoanl saftey first, this means not entering active traffic lanes. One of the drivers could have parked accrose the traffic lanes but are they aware of this and is their leaga reprocussions for blocking traffic?

Well how about just calling 911? too much of an imposition?
