$1:
In response to questions about how much tax corporations and wealthier Canadians should pay, 71 per cent of Vote Compass respondents said corporations should pay more tax, while 77 per cent said the wealthy should pay more in tax.

The findings are based on 309,985 respondents who participated in Vote Compass from Aug. 29 to Sept. 12, 2015.

This sentiment is shared across a number of demographics, including 51 per cent of those who identified as Conservative supporters, who don't typically condone higher taxation.

"A longstanding theme for the Conservative Party would be reducing taxes on the wealthy or on corporations, but it seems as though most self-identifying Conservatives don't want to take that route," says Brandon Schaufele, professor of business, economics and public policy at the Ivey Business School in London, Ont.

Bernard Wolf, a business professor at the Schulich School of Business in Toronto, says the longstanding claim by right-leaning governments that lowering taxes automatically creates jobs is "highly oversimplified."

He suggests that government investment in infrastructure can be more effective in job creation, particularly in this time of historically low interest rates.

As a Conservative (moderate, natch) I do not support an increase in taxes - have given up hope that Liberal governments at every level just might contain their ridiculous spending habits.

However, a flat tax?

Kinda gets everyone fair and square, doncha think?

All depends who the "rich" are.

Nothing like a little class warfare to pit people against one another.

Raise the taxes on the people who hold most of your capital and then watch as they flee Canada to avoid those taxes.

France already demonstrated the idiocy of such policies, why do they have to be repeated?

Because people like andy and those who push these types of things think that people and companies will just toss up their arms and take a hit to the bottom line. Either the lost profit comes from the consumers (you and I) or they'll just move to preserve the bottom line.

If we have average Canadians changing their address on their drivers licences to avoid paying more fees and insurance, you can be sure the wealthy have a lot more options and tools at their disposal!

Because, rich Canadians love their country so much that they'd never do anything like that.

Want an example. Just look at Paul Martin.........................oh wait!!!!

No, it really doesn't. It puts less burden on the Wealthy and more on the Poor.

So what's the discussion? To me there's 2 ways of viewing it:

1) Whether a Tax system where the Wealthier pay more Income Taxes should exist?
2) Whether Taxes should be raised on the Wealthy?

Those are 2 very different discussions, given that situation 1 is already the Norm. Situation 2 seems to be what the Poll was asking.

IMO, I don't think there is a structural problem that warrants increasing Taxes right now. I also don't think Cutting Costs is necessary either, we can afford more Debt until the Economy comes out of this Recession. Even if that means Government spending more through a stimulus.

In the US,

The top 10 percent pay two-thirds of the income tax. And the bottom 50 percent — all Americans with an income below the median — pay just 3 percent of the income tax.

Why should the rich pay more when they already pay a disproportionate amount?

Rich is always Richer than Me.

I think having other people pay more money is a great way for the government to raise revenues.

Because even after they've paid their taxes they're all still wildly wealthy beyond the dreams of practically everyone else. If you want to make an argument against increasing taxes then fine. Just don't make the wealthy out to be some kind of victims. They're not. They still run the entire damn show, own all of the politicians, and get to live without any of the stress and fear that most other people have to endure. There's much worse off and more deserving and actual real victims out there to feel sorry for.

I'd define it as someone who never has to live in fear of losing everything. Or someone who never has to worry about the carpet being pulled out from under their feet by the sadists and other assorted maniacs who control the "free" market. They're the ones who never have to live every single day like they're standing on the edge of a knife, and they're also the ones who are absolutely pitiless towards the vast majority of others who have to live every single day of their lives with that same relentless apprehension, tension, stress, and fear.
