$1:
There has never been an openly gay player in any of North America's major pro sports leagues, though a few athletes have come out after retirement.

Surprising in a way because there must be some that are. Obviously this is one profession where admission as to who one is would be difficult for the "masses" to accept?

It's a manly man, share a locker room and shower, hot and sweaty full contact sport.
I think it's more difficult for the other players to accept than the masses. :(

I played in college and I don't remember if we might have had gay players on the team. There must have been but it was a lot different back then, even more taboo and hidden.

I think acceptance is getting better but there's still a ways to go... this story proves that. If I had to answer honestly about what would have happened to a gay player when I was young, I'd say he would have been run off the team... sad but true. Even at that age I was more accepting than the average because I had 2 gay cousins.

Did you know that there are NO openly gay NFL players in the league? 8O

As long as the QB isn't gay, it's all good. Otherwise the snap could get a little awkward. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

It's not limited the football, there are no openly gay MLB players either, and it seems, no NBA players.

No gay NHL players either. Although I have my doubts about Sean Avery.

It'll come soon enough. I expect it'll be a big deal for about a day, and then go back to pretty much normal. The guys in the lockerroom will have to change a few of their jokes and fans of other teams will call the first guy out a few names, but that'll be about the extent of it.

I have to admit that I really don't care if you don't care.
