Well, we know embarrassing them while they're on a council they have no right to be on doesn't work does it?

So how about this. The UN stop the prog thought process of trying to institute change by inclusion like a hippie love in and go back to the drawing board and find another way that doesn't involve rewarding bad behaviour to bring these asshole nations to heel.

Could not agree more, Freakin'. The so-called UN Human Rights Commission is nothing but a farce as long as it refuses to sanction those countries sitting on the council who are still committing egregious human rights violations.

So long as we acknowledge the elected Chiefs and Councils in the affected areas.
Who gives a shit if the band affected by none of those projects 'stands in solidarity' with remnants of those who claim hereditary rights. As significant as the opinion of Zog III, grandson of deposed King of Slobovia.

True that, herbie. Those bands not affected by the project are as usual just trying to make some noise so as to get noticed. They have no legitimacy whatsoever.

What authority does the UN have to enforce anything they proclaim? None. Crisis averted. We now return you to our regularly scheduled program.

They have no power unless of course, your duly elected leaders opt to give it to them. So like I said, we'll wait and see because, if Canada suddenly changes their stance on these capital projects and decides to sign off on it like they did with the UN's Global Compact on migration of Refugees we'll know who's issuing the marching orders.

"Marching Orders" ROTFL

The UN is there to protect human rights. The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled that indigenous people have the right to be consulted before anything is done on their lands.

The UN is reminding the Government of Canada of that responsibility. Nothing more.

No, it's reminding them to consult ONLY with Native groups opposed to it. There are no shortage of Native groups along the route who are all for the TMX. Yet they somehow never get consulted.

The UN needs to fuck off and shut up. Excerpt from the CBC
$1:
First Nations chiefs and leaders who say they represent over 200 Indigenous communities in B.C. and Alberta are fighting back against the federal government's plan to ban all oil tanker traffic off the coast of northern B.C., calling it an "attack" on the energy industry that will impoverish remote First Nations.
Clearly if they're against the tanker ban they're pro-pipeline.

So, we can either work with First Nations' people to improve their economic outlook or work against them as eco-colonialists while once again assuming we know what's best for them.

Read the fucking article. And find out WTF they're referring to.
They don't.
The tanker ban refers to Northern BC, the Ports of Kitimat and Prince Rupert. There are no tankers or pipelines now, nor will there be. Running to support a new pipeline through virgin territory or suddenly add oil tankers to the mix would be political suicide. The vast majority of everyone up here opposes that.
There is NO tanker ban in the south. Juan De Fuca strait is international waters, tankers have been running there for decades, it's where the refineries are in Washington State and Vancouver. TMX has been there since 1953. The people opposed are against increased traffic.
Have the ability to interpret what you read. CBC is not playing us by reporting a pressconference, the Chiefs are by claiming they represent the opinion of 200 communities.

First, Northern Gateway would have gone through indigenous land that was never ceded to the crown. We can't take more land from them. Cancelling that was a good decision.

Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion is a pipe beside an existing oil pipeline, there is no new impact. And the oil terminal will be in an industrialized area. There shouldn't be any question about impact; this is a no-brainer!

This project has had more consultation than any project in Canadian history. No one can claim insufficient consultation. Furthermore, there was more consultation than any other project before the project was approved the first time. The courts ordered still more consultation. That was completed. The project is approved again. Time to build.

There's no need for violence. It's really simple: stay the hell out of the way of construction workers. It's already an established oil pipeline right-of-way, so no one can complain.

The article talks about "hereditary chiefs"; that means these individuals are not chiefs. They aren't elected, they aren't chiefs. What they want is irrelevant. Don't try to explain it to me. For those communities where the chief and council have approved the project, any opposition by anyone else is irrelevant. If I object to a city project, can I as a citizen prevent the project? They are spending my tax dollars. Same thing. Doesn't matter if the community wants to treat these individuals with respect, bottom line is they don't have any authority.

The article does say...

The committee on the elimination of racial discrimination monitors a convention to end racial discrimination signed by countries including Canada, and is calling for a suspension of the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion, Site C dam and Coastal GasLink pipeline.

website of UN High Commissioner: COMMITTEE ON THE ELIMINATION OF RACIAL DISCRIMINATION

The Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) is the body of independent experts that monitors implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination by its State parties.

All States parties are obliged to submit regular reports to the Committee on how the rights are being implemented. States must report initially one year after acceding to the Convention and then every two years. The Committee examines each report and addresses its concerns and recommendations to the State party in the form of concluding observations.

Looks like the "friends of the earth" were hacking down trees and setting up some petroleum-based incendiary weapons to use in their fight to preserve Mother Nature:

$1:
CALGARY — Tensions are rising further in northern British Columbia after the RCMP opened a criminal investigation after discovering “traps” and gasoline-soaked rags in the blockade by a breakaway First Nations group against the $6.6-billion Coastal GasLink pipeline.

RCMP officers on patrol this week along the pipeline blockade found three stacks of tires covered by tarps and trees and were staged along with multiple jugs of gasoline, diesel, oil and kindling as well as “bags full of fuel-soaked rags.”

In a release late Wednesday, the police said they had found the tires and fire-starting equipment on the Morice West Forest Service Road, which leads into a Coastal GasLink pipeline work camp. Dozens of trees had also been felled along the road and other trees were partially cut, in preparation for felling, which the RCMP said created a dangerous hazard.

“These concerning items have been brought to the attention of the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs. They have also been advised that the RCMP has entered into a criminal investigation under Section 247 of the Criminal Code for Traps Likely to Cause Bodily Harm,” the release stated.

But they can't be held accountable for their actions because their motivations are as pure as the snow itself!

Old news that. Today the Imaginary Chiefs are "allowing" them to go in and winterize their work camp. And they've persuaded the Human Rights Commissioner to ask the Court to stop the project.
You realize if they let the pipeline go through and it burst it might make the Sacred Air all stinky and drive away the Spirit Bears? Note they aren't protesting others cutting down the "Great bear Rain Forest" and shipping the raw logs to China?
